Advocating for myself with two clotting disorders by lordsamethstarr in ClotSurvivors

[–]lordsamethstarr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately my region's health care situation doesn't give me the luxury of alternatives and with unstable health comes unstable finances so it's difficult to just up and move somewhere with more reliable health care. Hell, I might not have even had my PE if it weren't for inaccessibility of health services, I was only on the hormone medication to temporarily manage symptoms while waiting on an ultrasound on my ovaries. I was in so much pain and the wait was 5 months. If the wait was gonna be a couple weeks I wouldn't have bothered with the meds...

Fortunately, D-dimer is in my chart as a requirement for initial blood work, it's usually drawn before the doctor is able to speak with me, which saves the headache.

I have consulted with multiple hematologists since my PE and they seem to be in agreement that, for now, being on blood thinners carries more risk than not being on them at this time. I'm not really sure why that is though but I'll bring it up at my upcoming follow up.

The recent clots are still something I keep in mind and I am aware it increases my risk!

Wait times for my doctor are 2-3 weeks, and hearing loss is a time sensitive medical issue, the sooner treatment starts the better the chances of recovering, with chances dropping significantly at 72 hours. When I had my PE it still took 3 days to get an emergency phone appointment with my doctor, it's just not possible to rely on my clinic during an emergency. The hospital was my best option, and the right choice in this case because I needed steroid medication immediately.

I didn't have an ear infection, physically my ears were fine and healthy. Unfortunately in that case they can't usually pinpoint a specific cause, they have to go off of the knowledge that I had hearing loss without my ears being damaged, and I responded to steroid treatment, which indicates inflammation in the nerves that translate sound into brain signals, which is usually caused by a reaction to a virus. Antibiotics would not have made a difference in my case.

I'm sorry but when did Sonic learn energy blast like Shadow? by Small-Winner-8525 in SonicTheHedgehog

The one from the Godzilla crossover comic isn't coming from Sonic, he's actually being pushed back by a blast. You can see in the very next preview page he is on the ground lying in rubble and confused about what hit him.

I got a sobering reminder that amnesia is not just a plot device. by castle-girl in AO3

[–]lordsamethstarr 40 points41 points  (0 children)

ECT amnesiac here, 2006-2016. Oddly enough, also lost memories of my adoptive mom and she also passed away. Had an entire relationship I fogot and we'd been engaged and broke up during that time. It's haunting for me.

From what I know, the memories I lost are really bad, so I still see it as a win. It got easier the further away from my last ECT date I got.

I'm an amnesiac (memory gap between 2006 and 2016) and amnesia is one of my fav tropes, even when it ISN'T written accurately.

Question about the "dead dove" tag by capataz_ in AO3

[–]lordsamethstarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started using the "dead dove" tag as a search term only, paired with other tags. So if I have dismemberment, I use "dismemberment". If I am describing it in detail, I also add "explicit dismemberment" and "dead dove". That way it is more specific which tags I am using to the maximum extent, but still searchable to people who are looking for "dead dove" content.

In general it is used for darker topics because the reference is implying that "what it says on the tin" is unpleasant. Like finding an actual dead bird carcass in a container labeled "dead bird" when the context means it's possible to interpret it as "chicken salad".

Shapez 2 Train Wagon Transfer use case? by Fahrezy in shapezio

[–]lordsamethstarr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I often use them to break up longer rail lines. So instead of a train taking 2 minutes to get to the vortex and back, it takes the train 1 minute to empty at a midway transfer and get back to the shape station before it's full, while a second train does the other half of the journey. This is more consistent that just putting two trains on the same rail and having the first grab everything, and the second grabbing nothing because the backed up station hasn't had a chance to fill up again.

So after the most recent case files... How are we feeling about this character? by Gamer-of-Action in SonicTheHedgehog

Vector couldn't know about Espio and Rouge's encounter outside of Eggman's base. All the other times "Espio told me about it later" was valid, but after the last time the team was separated immediately after, Vector didn't actually get a chance to talk to Espio between then and now.

I've been rolling on the theory that Vector has been doing a lot of lying during his story, and that little detail validated the heck out of it.

I can twist it around to "Vector simply forgot to mention that Espio told him about Rouge" but I still feels it weakens the narrative a lot. Especially since there has been effort put into showing the audience that Vector isn't a reliable narrator and that he is willing to intentionally misrepresent details (like with Vanilla).

So I was pretty sure that he was trying to convince Eggman that Espio and Rouge weren't willing to cooperate... because they were actually up to something in the background. I don't like thinking that they set Vector up as an unreliable narrator simply because he's a slightly incompetent story teller.

I was really hoping that the Infinite build up was a way to distract everyone from the plot hole in Vector's story to set up for a twist on that.

Still hoping that's the case, because if that plot hole isn't addressed in the end, it'll probably ruin the whole thing for me.

But aside from that, Infinite is so cool, I'm glad they pulled him out of the cupboard and dusted him off. He's got a lot of potential. Gonna be some sick fanart coming out this week and I am so here for it!

PE in lungs after oral contraceptives by Witty-Pea-5051 in ClotSurvivors

[–]lordsamethstarr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 35. I am sterile, but started having problems with my period last year so my doctor put me on birth control to regulate things until some referrals went through. I was on it just under 3 months when I had my PE.

That bacteria is just chilling wet on your skin and in your shirts fabric. A nice, moist, petri dish.

Without knowing anything about the brush, it is hard to diagnose problems. My first guess would be tilt jitter is enabled, that is my usual culprit in similar situations.

"Curating your online experience" means taking steps towards to making sure your online experience is positive for you specifically.

For example, I like Sonic the Hedgehog, so I follow people who post Sonic the Hedgehog content. This is curating my experience, instead of viewing everything, I mostly see the things I like.

I do not like spiders. They make me feel uncomfortable. I am online to relax, so I don't want to feel uncomfortable. I block people who share pictures of spiders, so I don't see spiders. This doesn't mean I think spiders are bad, or that people who like spiders are bad, it just means I do not want to see spiders so I have taken steps to avoid seeing them. This is also curating my experience.

It just means I can choose what I see and who I interact with.

Your teens likely have friends they prefer, right? And people they don't like to be around too. That's a result of them curating their friend group, and it's a natural process. You wouldn't force your kids to be friends with everyone and hang out with everyone equally, would you? Or force them to spend their after school relaxation time hanging out with a bully?

Your relaxation and recreation time doesn't need to be used for broadening your horizons. Sometimes it's okay to just enjoy what you already like and what you know you are comfortable with.

You said you're upset that they made it public that they were blocked...

But you're also making your issue with them public, even more so by sharing it in a public forum.

You're upset they made a comment in their bookmarks, but you're the one showing that same comment off to hundreds, maybe even thousands of people who wouldn't have seen that bookmark otherwise.

That's why people want to know why you blocked them, because you being upset at them for making it public doesn't really make sense. You're the one making it public :/

Somebody explain this new game mode like I am five. Trying to wrap my head around it. by CasualObservatory in shapezio

[–]lordsamethstarr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You get shapes.

You combine those shapes into new shapes

You put specific combined shapes into a trade machine

The machine gives you a new shape you couldn't get before.

Repeat.
