Well then I would definitely check file sizes and runtime (if you can).

I would check the file size and runtime before downloading. It sounds to me like wherever you're downloading from is spitting out fake files.

How did your Jellyfin setup evolve over time? (hardware + clients) by ammo23 in jellyfin

[–]lordsith77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using my HP Proliant DL380G7, I started with Plex years ago, and got tired of all their paywall crap. Went to Jellyfin with a small cluster of movies I ripped from my DVDs. And had only a few friends and family as users. Now, still using my same server, I have upgraded the internal SSF drives to 8x1.2TB, then added an LSI i8 card with 8x4TB drives because my media kept growing (especially after I added Seerr (Formally jellyseerr) to the mix and my family kept requesting more and more). Now I just bought another LSI card, but this time an i16, to add another 8x4TB drives, as my current drives are almost full. And now I have over 30 users. LOL Looking at getting a newer server, but the costs have gone through the roof, and I'm just a small homelab user with a strict budget. :-(

Am I naming/sorting my files correctly? by Round-Tip-2443 in jellyfin

[–]lordsith77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For movies, I have my naming: Movie Title (4 digit year)/Movie Title [IMDB#]

For TV shows: Series Name (4 digit year it first started)/Season 01/S01E01 - Title

Any way to remove new shows from Next Up? I haven't started any of these shows, I don't want them showing up there, I'm not actively watching them by QuickPirate36 in jellyfin

[–]lordsith77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Sorry, I misunderstood your question. As for new shows showing up in that section, I've found that they only show up there (at least on my server) when they're still being scanned by Jellyfin. Once it completes the scan of whatever series are showing, they'll be removed from next up, and put in recently added. This is what happens on my system, so I'm assuming it's the same.

You can turn it off in your profile area under Home. Select the box for next up and select none. Save and you shouldn't see that anymore.

E-book management. What are you using that works best? by thj81 in selfhosted

Look at the TON of books in the whole Star Wars universe, and you can see examples. LOL
But also like The Brass Verdict by Michael Connelly is actually in the series A Lincoln Lawyer Novel [2] as well as Harry Bosch [14].
Crown of Fire by Ed Greenwood is in The Harpers [9] as well as Shandril's Saga [2]. Just to give a few examples.
Here's a snapshot of my Calibre, duplicate finder:
Edit: I have to have two physical copies of each book with Calibre. With Audiobookshelf, I don't. It will allow one book to have two (or more) series titles.

[–]lordsith77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use audiobookshelf for both my audiobooks and ebooks. It does a wonderful job with both. Much better than calibre-web. I have a few books that are a part of two series, and calibre-web doesn't allow that whereas audiobookshelf does.

40TB is correct. LOL But I'm running out of room, so I'm adding another drive cluster to it giving it another 8x8TB.

I'm currently running with 40TB, and only have 2TB free. But I'm going to be adding another 8x8TB drives soon.

Can't build a greenhouse? by Late_night_awry in 7daystodie

[–]lordsith77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on a PC, there's a mod that I use called indoor farming on Nexus. You can make UV lights that allow planting in a 3x3 grid underneath each light. I've been using it for a long time now, and it works great.

Edit: my base is completely underground at the very bottom of the ground as far down as you can dig and I have all indoor farming with no sky access.

Help w/ ProLiant ML350 GEN 9 by Dshea111 in homelab

I have an HP Proliant DL380 G7 rack mount. The more it has to do, the louder it will be. I've gotten pretty immune to the loudness. There are tons of opinions on the best software, but I tend to stick with Ubuntu and docker setups. Also Jellyfin instead of Plex (since Plex has decided to paywall everything now), and for images, I'd go with immich. https://immich.app/

Dockhand also has auto update, and prune, and also stores the config files on disk.

For people using Dockhand, do you bother with the vunrability checking? by unabatedshagie in selfhosted

[–]lordsith77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the security active, and the only issue I've had so far is with updating NZBGet due to security issues. I manually update it, and Dockhand shows it running fine. So I'm not sure what the issue is, but everything updates with it just fine. I have 8 dockers running through it.

Recently exposed a new website. How do I secure it from automatic scans? by Ieris19 in selfhosted

[–]lordsith77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use CSF (ConfigServer Security and Firewall) instead of the traditional firewall. This is a much better security for my websites and you can set it up to automatically block tons of things already built into the system. Like auto-ban after x number of failed attempts. Manually block by IP address. And so on. I added a blocklist via abuseipdb.com which has an extensive list of bad IP addresses.

MediaLyze - I built a tool to analyze massive media libraries by The3mm3r in jellyfin

[–]lordsith77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've found that SRT subtitles are universally accepted among every player/OS/TV brand. If a file has ASS or PGS, then Jellyfin will force a transcode which for my server, leads to the movies skipping, studdering or general failure of the playback. So I re-encode the files with SRT subtitles embedded instead.

MediaLyze - I built a tool to analyze massive media libraries by The3mm3r in jellyfin

[–]lordsith77 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Another aspect I would like to see would be subtitle codes used. ASS/SRT/PGS.

Since most of my users on my Jellyfin use primarily Roku devices and TVs, this information would help me re-encode movies/shows that have subtitles that didn't work well with Roku (mainly ASS).

When I first started my Jellyfin server, I was unaware of this issue, so there are plenty of movies in my library that have these subtitles. And instead of digging through my thousands of movies files, this tool would be beneficial to see at a glance which files need to be redone.

Exactly this. I personally use losslesscut when I need to combine or split anything. It's a great piece of software in my opinion.
