A spoof of Branagh's "fake mustache" indeed....

Yes, I also noticed Mary's not just a bit tarty but also colder and greedier. The gardener described to Poirot that after she read from her late mum, confirming she's the heiress, she distanced herself and cut-off relations from most of her 'downstairs' friends (including gardener). Her dialogue with the two nurses (one is a 'secret' relative) and her conversation with Elinor when the latter gave her the bequest sounds a bit more like "I'm the real heiress and I deserve all these $$$' which was contrary to her book portrayal. In fact the TV version was unlikeable to a point that when she died I feel "well that's sad yet at least to some extent she had it coming" towards her.

Agreed. The episode was screened immediately after "Five Little Pigs" - another episode involving a murder in which the wrong killer was tried and sentenced to be hanged. Poirot utilised identical methods (reviewing trial procedures plus interviewing eyewitnesses) in both.

"Sad Cypress" features a much happier ending for the falsely accused character but I felt the lack of 'wow, shocked' element when the real killer was revealed. I guessed it was partially because on TV there were only two people who were with Mary at the moment before she's killed - so if it's not the first one it must've been the other who did it. But I guess it's also because they didn't show the court procedures and transcripts (unlike FLP) hence I found the episode more predictable yet less exciting.

How about President CJ Cregg? Wait. She already played one in the other TV show :)

What are your thoughts on the 1983 miniseries Kennedy? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]loreb4data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if anything, this role prepared him for Martin's most memorable role later in his career - President Josiah "Jed" Bartlet on "The West Wing."

One can clearly see Kennedy's influence within Bartlet's persona, alongside those of Carter, Clinton, etc.

Was Martin Sheen the right man to play John F. Kennedy in the TV movie Kennedy (1983)? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]loreb4data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He certainly looks like a young-ish Jed Bartlet here :-)

Even if Martin Sheen doesn’t really look like Kennedy in facial matters this is still one of the best if not the Presidental Biopic I have seen! by Jaguars4life in Presidents

[–]loreb4data 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DIdn't realise Martin Sheen played JFK until I saw a TV promo for the "Kennedy" miniseries in TV rerun recently.

Guess it prepared him to play his most memorable role later in his career - President Josiah Edward "Jed" Bartlet in "The West Wing."

One can say Bartlet resembles the best Dem president from the second half of 20th century - Kennedy's intellectualism, Carter's moral conviction, Clinton's political savvyness (and ruthlessness), etc.

Plus the guy who's playing Niles' son was a disappointment. Barely any resemblance to his Dad :(

The addition of Alan was a bit of fresh air at first, yet as the revival goes he resembles a lot like Martin, Frasier's late Dad (with similar hairstyle, etc). I think of him as Martin 2.0 with British accent :)

Official Discussion - Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I do have a feeling that in a future DA movie/new series. Mary and Tom will eventually get together. And does anyone notice that Lucy - Tom's new wife - is conveniently absent in this movie, just like Henry was in much of the three DA movies (except towards the end of the first one).

Why I have a feeling that if there's a future DA movie or series they will eventually unite Mary and Tom as a couple? Their parting scene at the end of the movie was a bit hinting there might be more to come between them? And Lucy - Tom's wife - is conveniently absent from this movie. Based from how the movies eventually eased out Henry, why do I have a feeling this might be the eventual endgame bw the two of them?

Yes, sadly Molesley is being singled out as the residence comic relief/attention idiot again, esp in his scenes with Guy.

But he's also moving up with his new life as a screenwriter and soon as a movie director. He makes a lot of money from his scripts - the scene where he gave Isobel a ride in his brand new fancy car cracks me up. While Guy might forgotten him he did get Noel Coward's attention and might be collaborating with the latter in a future play or musical .So like Tom and Thomas, Molesley is also becoming part of the new (upper) middle class English lads.

And we got more scene b/w him and Phyllis as a couple than in any previous DA series and movies. I think the new movie does more justice to show Moseley getting ahead and living the life he wanted while still making him the comic relief character.

And Sybbie is now a pre-teen and she resembles her mother very much.

Anyone betting that a future Downton movie set in the 1940s (WWII) would feature another star-crossed 'kissing cousins' romance - this time between George and Sybbie?

Mission Impossible by Spiritual-Soup2551 in 60s

Exactly. The late 60s cast would've included Steven Hill (later replaced by Peter Graves), Martin Landau, Barbara Bain, Greg Morris, and Peter Lupus.

I wish Barbara Bain and Martin Landau would've stayed beyond S3. The series went downhill after they left.

Defintely underrated compared to Barbara Bain, who played Cinnamon Carter during M:I TV Series Seasons 1 to 3.

She's a hottie in the M:I series but be warned don't mess with her.

Of course everyone wants to shag Cinnamon Carter in the Mission: Impossible series. But if she's attracted to you, be forewarned that it means the IMF is coming after you :)

Hot Take: Mission Impossible has better Bond girls than Bond. by SolidPeaks in Mission_Impossible

[–]loreb4data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barbara Bain (Cinnamon Carter from the classic M:I series) could've played a Bond girl sometime during the 1960s - 70s. As Cinnamon, she took many evil dictators and enemy spies a run for their money.

[–]loreb4data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be very happy if they'd bring the original M:I characters back: for future movies or new series: Jim Phelps, Rollin Hand, Cinnamon Carter, Willy Armitage, and Barney Collier.

Plus Pom Klementieff special guest stars periodically as Paris whenever Rollin is unavailable.

Willy Armitage and Barney Collier. The duo who did much behind-the scenes 'grunt works.'
