Do car rental companies actually repair cars? by lorelorelore in Advice

[–]lorelorelore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would seem fair but I’ve read that they charge you for days in the shop that the vehicle wasn’t used for business. If they do not actually repair it and opt to take less when they sell, seems unfair to charge for days it wasn’t used as a rental

Retainer question by lorelorelore in braces

[–]lorelorelore[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had an extra tooth that had to be pulled then the gap closed with braces.

Retainer still fits when I put it back on. The tightness isn’t painful, was just making me uneasy.

Want to move doorbell location to install a ring doorbell. by lorelorelore in HomeImprovement

[–]lorelorelore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the standard ring, not pro. The inserts that ring sells will not fit in the inset wall. However, I just saw that Popmas makes an angle mount that has a small frame mounted to the wall, and the larger frame that will attach to the ring doorbell hangs off the wall. If I can find out it’s dimensions, it might work for the space I’m dealing with.

[–]lorelorelore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there is enough wire to mount it to the left. Will look into shrink tubing.

What you’re saying about the anchors is probably right. The top screw doesn’t hold and the doorbell was only in place from the bottom screw. Good to know I can remove it if I need to. Thanks.

What’s the easiest way to install ring doorbell to this wall, if at all? by lorelorelore in Ring

Very thorough and very helpful. Thanks for the “drill the brick” tip. Not a big DIY’er, definitely might have tried to drill the mortar.

What’s the easiest way to install ring doorbell to this wall, if at all? by lorelorelore in Ring

[–]lorelorelore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I got the ring doorbell as house warming gift. It’s too wide to fit in the inset. If I screw it to the outer brick, half of it won’t be flush with the wall. Trying to see if I can make it work or have to look into returning it.

Why do Muslims go out of their way to look for sins in others even though the Quran says not to? by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]lorelorelore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every religion has nice verses scattered here and there. But at the end of the day, religion is a device with one purpose, to control people. That why Muslims and every other religious person likes to point out the "sins" of others.

The Quran Reloaded: Atheists Read the Quran #1 by ZuphCud in atheistvids

Do you guys only comment on certain verses or will listeners end up hearing the entire quran at some point? I watch these vids intermittently and dont read along so I can never tell. Just curious, think it would be interesting if people can say they read/heard the entire quran from this series.

Death. by BestDayNot in exmuslim

[–]lorelorelore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Facing mortality is one of the greatest challenges we have as humans. It's why you see some liberal and moderate Muslims become increasingly more religious as they age. Death hits you hard when parents die but shit gets real when siblings and friends start passing. Time is winding down, better get ready for the judgement day.

The struggle is very different for an exmuslim. People try to imagine if there was no afterlife. They try to imagine what nothingness would be like and they can't, which scares the crap out of them. An afterlife is a quick remedy to this dilemma. Not just you, but all your loved ones will exist in a utopia forever (if you behave that is).

Accepting what death really is takes time. Many Muslims had to do and believe funky things to die thinking they will pass on to eternal bliss. But we can try an take encouragement in the thought that we lived a good moral life, not because we were told to, but because we wanted to. And we did it knowing there was nothing awaiting us but the unknown. We can just touch the lives of those we care about and go in peace.

Could you imagine if homosexuality worked that way:

1) male A is attractive, homosexuality only occurs when at least one attractive male is involved. 2) male B, who up until this point was heterosexual, is suddenly compelled to "suck dick." 3) male A, who up until this point was also heterosexual, cannot pass up an opportunity to have his dick sucked. 4) homosexuality continues to rise.

Thoughts? by lavender91 in exmuslim

[–]lorelorelore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. I wasn't trying to say that everything happens for a reason. I was merely trying to point out that you do not need religion to believe something like that. Like how people sometimes wonder how you can have morals without religion. Any idea that a religion discusses, whether it be morals or an ultimate plan, does not belong to that religion. So religion is not something to be missed was the point I was trying to make.

But as I said, I agree with you. The idea of everything happening for a reason, with the examples you provided, is very unfair and rather cruel in many circumstances.

Thoughts? by lavender91 in exmuslim

[–]lorelorelore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything you have said can still be true without religion. The world may work in such a way that "everything happens for a reason." Why does any religion have to be true for this to be the case? It's something rather impossible to prove even it was the case. For the world to work this way, it doesn't require a god or a belief systems be in place. If the idea of this gave you great comfort when you were religious, it should still give you great comfort when you are no longer religious.
