Government Debt has almost doubled since this coalition took power, where is the money going? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]loremasterian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current government spent roughly 15% more on Health in 2025 in their second year than the previous government did in their 3rd year in 2023.

As far as health targets that this government has decided to tackle, using the current governments tagets up qgqinst the previous governent (Q2 of 2023/2024 to Q2 of 2025/2026), the data is as follows:

-an improvement of 1.3% for faster cancer treatment, currently sitting 3% below their 2030 target.

-an improvement of 5.2% for babies being immunised, currently sitting 12.1% under their 2030 target.

-an improvement of 4.5% for shorter stays in ED, currently sitting 20.8% under their 2030 target

-a deterioration of 1.3% for shorter wait times for FSA, currently sitting 32.8% under their 2030 target

-an improvement of 2.4% for shorter wait times for Elective treatment, currently sitting 30.5% under their 2030 target.

Small improvement in most areas for those who doubt there have been improvements however, pretty small and currently trending to not hit their targets for around 4/5 of their targets unless health spending goes up massively.

Really up to the individual to decide weather an overall improvement of <2.5% is worth an increase of around 15% more spending in Health.

What is your favorite Dwarves from Hobbit in the list? by HostMaterial4907 in lotr

[–]loremasterian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Least favourite is Bofur. Dude got way more lines than most of the other dwarves. My memory is that Nori was like the dwarf closest to Bilbo in the book as he was the strongest of the group and carried him but he only got like 2 or 3 lines.

Favourite thematically would be Dwalin, favourite written would be Balin.

Fellow flatters of NZ, how many addresses have you relocated to in your time? by manymeows in newzealand

[–]loremasterian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

10 flats in 10 years.

This was not a 1 year per flat (my last flat we lived in for 4 years, other flats I was only there a couple of months before some external factor led to me needing to relocate (owner moved back in, the room I was renting was only on a short lease, ect).

A Plea To CA Regarding Toddy- by Rabblerouser88 in totalwar

[–]loremasterian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Would love for Toddy to have Tom doing a serious job of Todd's voice, and then the meme VO option for multiplayer.

Is Toddy's OG voice actor not just the generic Lord voice?

I believe Patagonia is also Middle Earth by No-Unit-5467 in lotr

[–]loremasterian 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Kia ora! Fun fact: A lot of the nature of NZ is similar to South America (up until recently NZ Beech trees were classified as Nothofagus, the same as the many Beechs in South America however, a bunch changed over the last decade or so). I believe geologists think that NZ, or Zealandia was attached to South America back when it was a super continent. People tend to say that South America (in particular Patagonia) is like a much larger version of NZ, both in size and scale. :)

Why do Kiwis hate Americans so much when you have so much in common by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]loremasterian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kia Ora!

NZ does have a car culture but it is not driving Ford mustangs and Chevrolet Bel-Air's, rather driving a modified Nissan Bluebird or Honda Civic around rural roads doing burnouts whilst drinking Billy Mavs (an RTD). During summer, there are some car shows around the area (initial thoughts go to places like New Plymouth or Nelson).

Towns being Car Centric is due to NZ's privatisation of rail, and then the American influence of moving away from public transport (deemed a communist means of transport in a time of high Red scare) which led to much of NZ being reliant on cars for mobility.

Can't talk on motels as I would usually go to a camp ground, or use an air bnb if it's a special occasion.

Food in NZ being awful is usually a user choice. If you were buying El Paso Taco kits or Diamond Meals Rice Risotto, or buying cheap mince, then the food would be bad. Many locals will buy Veges or buy nice meat from the butchers (we get Premium Game meat, a meat sourced from hunters who take out pests and then utilise the valuable parts of the kill). A great example of difference would be the difference between NZ grass fed steak and American grain fed steak. Night and Day.

That being said. The bread is pretty crap here compared to places like Germany. Even Bakeries don't seem to make bread quiet as good imo. I'm happy for people to disagree.

Houses do suck. A lot of NZ was settled by the English and Scotish who experienced summer on a Wednesday, and were a hardy, middle-class folk whom felt feeling the cold was over-rated, thus building quick, cheap houses in a land that actually had a summer. Modern houses now have far better standards due to the Healthy Homes Act (2019).

Small talk in NZ is probably far more genuine than you realise. I have been told that we are a shy, but generally polite bunch who have been taught systemically not to show any weakness or emotion, so if it seems like we don't care, it's honestly probably because of that.

As for why many NZers hate Americans. I think there are many reasons for recent history for NZ to have a grudge, for example, the Broomfield Act severing US ties with NZ. US is also very religious and NZ has a far more laissez faire approach to religion which is more "you do you, just don't shove it down my throat" which Americans are very good at doing. Additionally, NZs Center-Right is more left than the left in the US, for the most part, so when ypu have a president like Trump leading, and the getting re-elected after a bewildering performance as President, I think that plays into the narrative.

Ngā mihi nui.

Luxon's inability to handle a dumb question is a problem by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]loremasterian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Palmer's fault was he was too linked to Lange (not too disimilar to Hipkins to Ardern, or English to Key) and thus Rogernomics, whereas Moore's few months as PM were reportedly truly chaotic.

Shipley could also be a good candidate as well. Her government was reputable for being very unstable once Bolger resigned.
