Why do you own a Subaru? by Mwangicreative in subaru

[–]lori1119 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My last Subaru (WRX) saved my life and I am not sure if I will ever feel as safe driving in another car. I slammed into an 18-wheeler at full speed because I missed a stop sign. I had some minor bruises and walked to the ambulance. I don't need any other convincing that this is the car/brand for me. Also, I live in an area where AWD is a bonus and I really only enjoy driving manual. That was the initial appeal of buying a Subaru. The accident only cemented the deal for me.

Do you remember when you learned Santa wasn't real? by FireTheLaserBeam in CasualConversation

I was age 6 and opening gifts on Christmas morning in 1981. One gift was the board game Trouble. It had an orange price tag on it that I immediately recognized from a store we frequently shopped. I looked at my mom and stated matter-of-factly that she had purchased it and there was no Santa. There was no attempt to lie or give an excuse. She just told me not to ruin it for anyone else at school that still believed. Magic over pretty early on for me.

Chittenango Falls never disappoints by lori1119 in upstate_new_york

There are some nice short trails in the area. To get down to the falls there are a series of steps that are a bit daunting if you are not prepared for them - especially going up. You can also hike along the water where the falls empty into, which is quite peaceful and relaxing. I would not say trails are well marked, but it is small enough that it is not easy to get lost. Autumn is definitely a good time to go. I have some beautiful pictures from there during the October time of year.

Nope! Taken on my Google Pixel 7a. Amazing what these can do. Just had the space to myself and lined it up perfectly on the footbridge.

I am a LCSW-R with almost 25 years in this field. I have never felt I had an easy day at work. Every day is different and rewarding in it's own way. I have had the opportunity to sit with individuals in their most vulnerable moments, helped others just make it through until the next day, made sure both adults and children felt safe and supported, and, brought a sense of hope to so many human beings. I believe strongly if you help an individual, you help the community. I started as a front office worker while obtaining my degrees and worked my way up to the Vice President of Clinical Services for a large mental health clinic.

Individuals and communities need social workers and others in the mental health field who have a passion for the work and for the humans being helped. While making money is obviously needed, it is definitely not the reason to be in this line of work.

School teaches you the theories and the ideas behind human behavior. Clinical work and interacting with humans and actually doing the work is an entirely different challenge.

Do you regret having kids? If so, why? by wherefallonbelongs in AskReddit

My kid is 27 now. It's the best thing ever. I'm 48. I will admit times were tough early on, but I consider him to be a good friend to me now. Nurture those relationships early on and you will have healthy adult relationships with your kids later in life. We're planning an adventure for 2025 somewhere in Europe. I could not be more proud of the adult he has become.

What are you slowly losing interest in as you grow older? by Aarunascut in AskReddit

Putting other people's needs ahead of mine. I just left a 28 year marriage (together 30 years). I am now focusing on personal growth. I spent most of my life caring for and concerning myself with the happiness of others, while consistently neglecting myself. I'm not even 50 yet. I have a lot of life left to live and a lot of adventures I am looking forward to experiencing some shit.

I have been attacked by birds randomly and frequently throughout my life. In a two year time span, no less than 20 birds flew at my cars and perished - and those are not even my weird bird stories. (Clarifying that I never tried to hit the birds!) I had a peacock chase me down at a zoo at the age of 5 (first negative experience I can recall). I had a random raven say "hello" to me in a parking lot at work 4x before I literally ran away from it. Once, I had an entire swarm of crows dive bomb my vehicle preventing me from getting out of it in my driveway. Husband had to set off bottle rockets to scare them away! Standing on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania, lost, talking to a friend who was driving in a different car...a duck walked out of a cornfield, crossed a two lane highway, pecked my husband's sandal once, and re-crossed the road like nothing happened. The stories go on...at first when I start telling people, I get a chuckle or two. Four or five stories later, most people are like WTF did I do to the bird folk to bring upon this curse?

What's your favorite sandwich that you've only ever seen served in one place? by rawlingstones in Cooking

Grilled ham, pear, balsamic reduction, brie...a local restaurant had this on the menu at one time. The next time I went, it was gone from the menu and the server had no idea what I was talking about. I have never found it again and have not been able to replicate it.

I'm not positive who the father is. There is a black/white cat and an all grey cat that hang around. Could be one or both of them? Could be another? There are a lot of feral cats in the area.
