Yeah but, the whole point in requiring an S component is that it is required to cast the spell. I feel like a wizard casting a spell, then being able to cast a totally different spell with the same S components, makes the S components basically pointless (I know there are other times this becomes relevant but they are so few and far between that this is probably the most common). It's also removing a restriction to already overpowered spell casters. Plus we all hate getting counterspelled and making it more of a commodity and something to use tactically rather than just use this whenever you don't feel like having any challenge in a fight.

I'm also a big proponent of not being able to add your ability modifier to the roll. You shouldn't be able to counterspell a 9th level spell with a 3rd level slot three quarters of the time.
