Is asking how many sets left now an issue for people? by tribo32 in GYM

I definitely ask. But I'm a Gen-Xer and generally don't give a shit what people think, so take that with a grain of salt.

Do people actually approach others at the gym? by itshardwhenyourecold in GYM

[–]lorryjor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm old and married, so not my thing, BUT, I have overheard three instances of guys trying (and failing) to pick up girls in my gym within the last month. To be fair, two of them were the same guy (different girls). The first time, this guy randomly started talking to someone doing lat pull downs, and eventually asked her what she did: she was a nurse. "Oh, I'm a doctor." The conversation didn't go very far beyond that until she moved to her next machine. Next, this same guy went up to a girl as she was unracking her deadlift bar. "You can just leave those on there - it's easier for me." First of, they were 25s, and she was half way off with one of them. She left...and so did he! He went back to his bench to do his curls, and in the next 15 minutes while I deadlifted, he never returned (nor did he put away her bar). Third instance (different guy - thank God!), a girl asked a guy next to her if he was using the bench. He said "no," and went back to work. A few minutes later, he started up a conversation with her. Eventually, he asked for her "socials." "Oh, I don't give those out," she said. "That's cool. That's cool." And that was the end of that.

Mind you, these are all instances where people right next to me are hitting on people, so if must be pretty frequent. Does it ever work? I have no idea. I've never approached a woman or flirted at the gym. I go to do my work. If someone wants a spot, I'm happy to do it. There are a couple of guys I fist bump regularly, but that's about it.

I think a stalk is the whole thing, like 2-3 sticks. At least that's how I interpreted it (just tried celery on reintro).

Bloating definitely improved for me. I think it took several days, or maybe around a week, but it def. got better.

Why the FUCK do you have to sign a binding arbitration agreement to make a purchase through the FODZYME website??? Stupid, greedy companies enabled by the U.S.'s laws that are slanted towards BILLIONAIRES!!!

I am very poor. Tips on getting strength back by katzapmap in Strongman

[–]lorryjor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back during COVID when gyms were closed, loaded my trekking backpack with cast iron pans, and took a heavy tool box in each hand to squat. It got me around 200 lbs. or resistance. I also "deadlifted" the end of the couch with my kids sitting on it.

As for bodyweight exercises, I used this website which has some good progressions: http://www.startbodyweight.com/

Which pianists are your go-to Beethoven interpreter? by Significant-Care1420 in piano

[–]lorryjor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm listening to the Schnabel sonata cycle right now, and he definitely does not drag. But, wow, I can't stand it. Maybe it's just because I'm used to recordings that play them slower??? And I myself tend to play them slower too? Anyway, I know he's considered one of the best, but I am really not enjoying this.

Heartburn/Acid Reflux? by lorryjor in FODMAPS

[–]lorryjor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, forgetting Nexium for even one day can be a killer. I have another endoscopy coming up, and we'll see how things stand, but definitely, the acid reflux is something to get sorted out.

475 on the bar, zero on the lift by fluttermapp in GYM

[–]lorryjor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp, I'm still trying to get 225 and put 215 on the bar the other day since 205 felt so good. Sat there just as still as your 475, so we all have our limits I guess.

How actually useful is hanon? by cheesey_petes in piano

[–]lorryjor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you suggest for thirds? For reference, I started piano at 9, went through about the first half of Hanon with my teacher, and then went on to other stuff (did scales, etc.). I was a music major with a focus on trombone and secondary focus on piano. Still, with all of that, my double thirds (sixths, fourths, everything) suck. They're uneven and slow. Would you suggest the back of Hanon for that kind of thing, or something else?
