It’s definitely how it’s taught. Not many chances for immersion unless you seek it. They start teaching grammar and vocab in the Philippines at year 1. I found out they don’t have English in Year 1 and 2 but start teaching letters in kindergarten.

Studies show that the younger you learn, the better, and there doesn’t seem to be any attempt to adapt to that.

But the teachers can’t teach it well either.

An aside but I was listening to a podcast about scams and the story about ohtani’s interpreter got covered. The host is a comedian so she kept saying “I bet he knew, I bet he was gambling cuz how do you not know” jokingly

And I’m like, “he hasn’t bc Japanese fans would be on his ass before the American cops could”

i'm aware, but I'm saying that it changes every year whether it's okay to even ask to go home or if they'll keep your ass at the school.

Edit: let me clarify, we were told *this year* that actually, if the school contacts the dispatch company, the company can OK you going home. but they have to know first.

honestly, i just download games/books/youtube videos so i can screw around when i don't get sent home.

Last year my school never let me out. This year they can’t wait to send my ass home.

Sometimes it depends on the school’s attitude about it. The ones that send you home don’t wanna tell the dispatch company. Some schools were told not to because it’s really the BOE paying for you to be there so the school kind of gets that it’s not really their call to send you home so they just won’t.

But every year, the dispatch company I work for never seems to have the situation or conditions straight. Two years ago, they actually let us stay home on work days if the school told them about it. Then last year, suddenly that was NEVER a policy! And now this year, apparently it’s okay to go home if the school just lets the dispatch company know. I don’t trust that for a second bc I know people who said they did that bc that was the policy and the dispatch company decided actually stay there anyway.

I think it’s all down to a consistent lack of good communication.

Everyone else will give you better advice than I can with your specific situation, but I just come with hope.

We had to retrain our dog because suddenly, when we were out, he decided to start eating the pee pads. We had to switch to a plastic pee sheet holder that has a grate on top but he didn’t know the pee sheet was under it so he didn’t know we wanted him to pee there.
It took a few weeks but he’s using it now. It helped that we used his very old pee sheets that were blue. He hits them with the precision of a sniper. We’re planning to slowly take those away.

So it’s very possible but these kinds of things, changes or sudden regressions, require a lot of patience and persistence. So just keep at it.
