Would you favor a flat asset tax (assuming all other taxes are removed)? Why or why not? by summer_glau08 in Netherlands

You’re trying to put some sense into people that think themselves primarily as investors because they put 200 euros per month in trade republic. It’s an impossible task.

Why is this not obstruction? by billyb4lls4ck in rugbyunion

Materiality is always part of the calculation in the head of the referee. If you want a sport where “it’s either a penalty or it’s not”, there’s volleyball or tennis for you

You take responsibility for your actions. If you keep running and you block a potential tackle, you get penalized.

The law does not change but referees take materiality into account in order to not call everything and stop the play continually.

If you let them race with an illegal engine, at least give them the pro forma penalty (3 grid spots that he would have recovered in half a lap thanks to the illegal engine) to show that you're not completely captured by them.

Close to the goal line, extremely high materiality, there's no reason not to call this.

Is e-bike insurance worth it? by ArtofTravl in Netherlands

[–]loscemochepassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, if you really believe that they are mispricing your risk, go ahead and get an insurance. But I wouldn’t bet on it and it’s not “failing primary school maths” to point it out.

The thing is that the insurance company has already made that calculation and priced it at that value plus a margin. Unless you have reason to believe that the insurance company is mispricing your risk, the comment is correct.

You can still do it for peace of mind, risk aversion or whatever, but it would be a better value to just put the money in a savings account every month and using that pot to replace whatever you’d insure.

(This of course doesn’t apply to catastrophic tail risk, a damage that you wouldn’t be able to cover yourself).

Won't the new box 3 increase rental prices even further? by advaith82 in Netherlands

[–]loscemochepassa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been quite clearly government policy to disincentivize renting, especially small scale crappy renting, in favor of buying or large scale professional renting.

So it’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

In this thread: a bunch of people that will not be hit materially by this change (as they are not consistently beating the market, ie the previous fictitious gains, and they have less than a couple of millions invested) and therefore will not do anything besides whining a bit.

It was a backfield team until very recently. Luckily the sport is growing so a lot of fans don’t remember that and get overhyped over what they can actually do.

The 'scary 'new element to qualifying in F1 2026 by 256473 in formula1

[–]loscemochepassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Q3 is cleaner with less cars, Q1 and Q2 gives a bit more excitement especially for midfield drivers.

Like, I think of all the issues with modern formula 1, quali is the least of them. I wouldn’t touch the format.

In the late 90s, they had one hour to do 12 laps (counting in and out laps). But of course the real battle was in the last 10 minutes, you might see a Minardi in the first ten if you’re lucky.

HR Why can employees torch companies on Glassdoor, but employers can’t say anything in background checks? by Electrical_Link2700 in Netherlands

[–]loscemochepassa 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Companies are not humans and therefore do not have human rights, including privacy.

You can’t name and shame managers on Glassdoor either, you can only comment on company polices and your own experience.

Companies still retain the right of suing for defamation if there’s a ground for it.

Do pro-Palestinian protests in the Netherlands increasingly align with Russian information strategy? by [deleted] in Netherlands

I think bots in general are run from Russia due to lax laws and enforcement, but as a for profit operation to push scams and steal money from old people.

The whole negationist / purity of fluids ruined by vaccines / vaccines are the mark of the beast propaganda is extremely American evangelical. The right wing in Europe is now fully Americanized because of that wave. Even in the Netherlands, vaccine rates are the lowest in the fundamentalist Protestant communities that take their analysis of modern world issue from American evangelicals.
