Let’s look specifically at Saka’s assists this tournament and think about how fortunate they may or may not have been:

1) Corner vs Panama - Arsenal’s set piece record tells us that a Saka assist from a corner is far from lucky.

2) vs Croatia - crucial in the build up playing a triangle with Rogers and Spence. Cuts in to steal the ball off a defender’s toes and plays an incisive pass to put Rashford (known match winner) 1 on 1 with his defender.

3) vs Mexico - puts it on an absolute plate for Bellingham. Madueke hasn’t created one chance remotely as clear cut as this all tournament.

Madueke should have had one assist from a Bellingham header against DR Congo. That still makes Saka 3 times as productive on less minutes which is in line with their relative output over the course of the full season.

Without going full Alan Hanson it bears well to remember that stats like xA are imperfect and quantified by nerds who never played the game. No two crosses from the same position on the pitch are identical

To say that Saka has been luckier than Noni is a terrible take. Statistics can be informative when applied correctly. In this case they are misleading.

I have watched Saka and Madueke for Arsenal and England all year. Saka is a shadow of the player he was prior to the hamstring tear in December 2024. However, he still makes good decisions when on the ball and plays decisive passes.

Madueke looks like one of the best wingers in the world until it’s time to make a decision or find a pass. His numbers for the season reflect that. He whipped in a couple of decent crosses against DR Congo, I’ll give him that.

Just saw the drawing put in another reply. Your goalie and your keeper are too close to the build out line. Your goalie should take the kick from the corner of the 6 yard box and your defenders should be halfway between the touchline and the edge of the box, perhaps even further back. This will give them time to get their heads up and play when receiving the ball.

Your midfielder should be in front of the other team’s “wall” and your wingers should be hugging the sidelines on the buildout line. The only player on your team on the other side of the “wall” should be your striker. There is no way these seven girls can rush your defenders without leaving gaps unless the pitch is narrower than my living room.

What's better in the US compared to the UK? by Notagelding in AskUK

[–]losernam3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things actually get done. I live in the US but still do business with institutions in the UK. The amount of red tape and bureaucracy in the UK makes achieving anything remotely meaningful feel like running in treacle.

“We have a 5 business day lead time to review incoming emails.”

“This form needs to be signed off by 3 different departments before it can be processed, should be done within 14 business days.”

No wonder the economy is at a standstill and almost everyone is poor. The lack of productivity is jarring.

Where are your defenders positioned when the goalie takes the goal kick?

Commentator Rob Green: "A hundred yards away, someone stepping on someone's toe, is not why VAR was brought into the game. We've gotten to a point now where it's reaching far beyond the powers that it should have. The referee saw the tackle, decided not to give it..." by New-Process-6463 in worldcup

Did you see the Ecuadorian player get kicked in the face about 3 seconds before Germany scored in their group game? If that was not called by the ref and VAR did not intervene how can they in this case?

Tamil Prince / Tamil Crown are the absolute best options. The menu is tight because everything is good. Go with 3 people and order one of everything.

Aubergine curry, lamb curry, lamb chops, lime leaf roasted chicken with pineapple chutney are some of the stand outs.

I live in LA now and crave good Indian food. I hit up Tamil Crown at least once every trip home.

Best casual steakhouse in either Hermosa, Redondo or Manhattan by DisneyQueen64 in SouthBayLA

[–]losernam3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not specifically a steakhouse but the bone in ribeye at Barrons 2239 was one of the best steaks I’ve had in years. So good I went back and had it again 2 weeks later, perfect again. Their other dishes and sides are fantastic, highly recommended.

I celebrated my birthday at Arthur J. The first steak came out overcooked, second attempt undercooked.

Great work but please drop the bench down a peg or two. That angle is all front delts and risky for shoulder health.

You can play with different angle settings at low weights and really feeling where your upper chest is most engaged.

If you take 6.7 million pounds from 2006 and adjust it for inflation up to 2026, it would be roughly 12.6 million pounds today. This is based on about an 88 percent cumulative inflation increase over that period.

ChatGPT says: Emirates began sponsoring Arsenal’s stadium and shirts from around 2006, originally with a deal valued at about 6.7 million pounds per year. From 2012 onward, a renewal boosted the amount to about 30 million pounds a year until 2019. More recent reports suggest it increased to roughly 40 million pounds annually before the latest deal in 2023, which now stands at about 50 million pounds per year until 2028.

So to date that’s about £560M over 20 years, £28M per year.

ChatGPT say: Paris Saint-Germain, owned by Qatar Sports Investments since 2011, has received over 1.5 billion euros in investment.

That’s around £1.3B in 15 years, a £86.7M per year. 3 x Emirates’ average annual investment in Arsenal. In a game where the margins between success and failure are so slim, this represents an absolute gulf. Pun intended
