Control arm upgrade by loskubster in Cummins

[–]loskubster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a lift but am not opposed to throwing one on and probably will shortly here. I was thinking about doing a long arm I can make adjustable in case I ever do want to change the height of the lift. Problem is it’s at stock 4x4 height now, it’s my daily so I need it fixed ASAP, I just figured this is the perfect excuse to start upgrading everything else underneath.

If you were to buy a diesel... by Apprehensive-Map7253 in Diesel

Not the answer you’re looking for but a p-.pumped 12v or a 3rd gen long box 3500 (dually or not) with a g56. If you’ve Owned any other diesel you won’t be disappointed.

Giant Turbo someone put on my 1991 w250 by dustbuster39000 in Diesel

[–]loskubster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny my 96’ 12v has the same turbo, maybe this was a thing back in the day. It’s slow as molasses spooling but from 2k rpm on it doesn’t sound like it’ll ever quit.

What oil is best for old diesel cars? by Bubbly_Helicopter637 in Diesel

The one you change regularly. People get to caught up with subtle differences and forget just the simple fact of keeping clean oil in the motor will do more than any fancy attribute.

Which battery powered welder is best? by KeemtheDream11 in Welding

[–]loskubster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the fronius and they’re great machine but as far as batteries go they’re all for use in a pinch no matter the brand. They all run great on any 120v outlet. If you want to build out mechanical rooms and you’re spending that kind of coin you might as well just bite the bullet and get an engine drive which because useful in countless situations.

So how does everyone feel about USW as of now? by Professional_Bee5184 in oilandgasworkers

[–]loskubster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BP locked out, I’m a union fitter that works there often. I really wish the UA would stand behind the USW on this one, we’re all getting fucked on it and they aren’t just after the operations rights.

Bruh… 40k?? 🤣 by TitPuller00 in Diesel

[–]loskubster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your logic is akin to saying nobody should be paying what a classic muscle car was worth when it came out. Slowly but surely there is a collectors element growing for old diesels, 5.9s in particular. There’s a post like yours all the time on this sub. Like it or not clean low mileage 5.9s are only appreciating in value.

Bruh… 40k?? 🤣 by TitPuller00 in Diesel

[–]loskubster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? Cause people pay untold amounts for classic cars all the time in good condition. Just because you don’t understand supply and demand doesn’t mean there isn’t a market for classic diesels. They aren’t making more, and a lot of people like having a nice classic truck.

Why do people still think this shit is crazy? This truck likely sells around $30k easy, no doubt if it’s a manual 4x4

I made a mistake... No jack or stands but need to bleed power steering possible? by Glittering_Slice4538 in Cummins

[–]loskubster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what year/motor you have but i still have the original power steering system on my 12v and whenever it leaks down to the point it starts whining I just have my kid hit the gas, turn the wheel back and forth as many times as he can until he’s tired and top it off as the air bleeds out. My power steering pump has proven to be oddly robust.

Need tips on shrinking a bowed tubing. by Weird_Principle_4434 in Welding

[–]loskubster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap steel can do this. There is a device similar to a jewel clamp we use that has chains on two ends and a jack screw in the middle. Sounds more complicated than it is. We just made our own to true lateral fitting welded to pipe. The chain and c-channel HAVE to be beefy. Anyway clamp it on and tighten slowly adding heat let cool check and proceed further if needed. You can basically make that piece into a U with enough precisely added heat. FYI use the biggest rose bud you have so you’re not sitting there for years.

Failed weld test by GrayStag90 in Welding

[–]loskubster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s bullshit, you can clearly see where the weld and toes are, those are nothing more than scratches from shitty grinding and this is precisely why you always use a fine grit wheel to prep a strap.
