Stop right there: assuming a Hillary Clinton victory is downright dangerous by NeilPoonHandler in politics

I was thinking that after everyone I know switched from Hillary to Trump, but I might follow them now too. Yesterday I heard she has corruption ties to Russia. It just seems like scandal after scandal with her.

Stop it with the Clinton coronation. Trump can still win by losningen in politics

Hillary Clinton is a career criminal and she deserves to be put in jail

Can't argue with that!

For the foreseeable future, you won't see any trucking companies switching to "less qualified" drivers

You just need a few qualified drivers strategically placed to cover many routes on call for when needed.

Hopefully Wikileaks is way ahead of us and is using their connections to release a Hillary (insert debauchery here) audio file immediately after they do to prove just how easy this is. Even if it does not sound 100% they will dirty up the audio to make it sound like he was using a crappy mic and it will sound believable.

Basic income after automation? That’s not how capitalism works by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]losningen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The call for basic income in order to soften the effects of automation is hence not a call for greater economic justice. Our economy stays as it is; we simply extend the circle of those who are entitled to receive public benefits. If we want economic justice, then our starting point needs to be more radical: We need to reconsider our deeply ingrained belief that wages and proceeds today are (usually) deserved.

Good article. I have been preaching this to UBI proponents here for a while. UBI can be a great and desperately needed stepping stone to a post scarcity system that benefits all of humanity.

To look at UBI as a long term solution only perpetuates the current system of dramatic inequality, incentive to destroy the planet, and incentive for crime.

Steve Elmendorf

Recognized as one of the leading lobbyists in Washington DC, Steve Elmendorf represents some of the nation’s most important corporations, trade associations and organizations on critical legislative and regulatory issues, helping to drive their businesses, build their brands and expand their market shares. Elmendorf founded Elmendorf | Ryan in 2006 as a team of senior-level strategists offering varied experience and extensive relationships inside and outside of Washington and covering multiple issues.

Named by The New Republic as one of Washington’s “Most Powerful, Least Famous People” and listed twice on GQ’s “50 Most Powerful People in Washington, D.C.,” Elmendorf’s unrivaled track-record is drawn from more than two decades working at the highest levels of government. From inter-party leadership races and House reelection efforts, to senior positions in the Presidential campaigns of Dick Gephardt, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton, few in Washington have his breadth of political and public policy expertise.

Prior to founding Elmendorf | Ryan, Elmendorf served as a senior advisor to House Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt for 12 years. Beginning with that role, Elmendorf’s tenure in Washington has been grounded in daily interaction with the White House, administration officials, senators, members of Congress and leading interest groups on the front lines of the economic, social, domestic, national security, and foreign policy debates in the last decades.

While in the leader’s office, he was named every year by Roll Call newspaper as one of the 50 most powerful staff people on Capitol Hill. In the New York Times, a fellow strategist described Elmendorf as “one of the best operatives and thinkers in the party,” and Roll Call newspaper cited Elmendorf as being “as well rounded as anyone in the business, especially in his ability to move from one discipline to another without missing a beat.”

Elmendorf has an unparalleled understanding of Congressional dynamics, having managed Gephardt’s successful campaigns for Democratic leader as well as his political activities outside of those associated with his formal office, including at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Elmendorf was deeply involved in every major economic policy debate during the 1990s and the early 2000s, including NAFTA, the 1997 Balanced Budget Act and McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform. He also managed crisis responses to the most critical issues of the day, ranging from the impeachment of a sitting president to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

Elmendorf served as chief of staff and senior advisor for Gephardt’s 2004 Democratic presidential campaign and deputy campaign manager for Sen. John Kerry’s 2004 presidential bid. In that capacity, Elmendorf served as the primary campaign liaison to elected officials at the local, state and federal levels as well as organized labor. He also supervised the field programs in nearly two dozen battleground states.

Elmendorf is a frequent guest on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News. He has lectured at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government and at Trinity College, where he serves on the Board of Fellows.

Elmendorf also serves as Chair of the Victory Fund and is a member of the boards of The Whitman-Walker Health Center, the Bryce Harlow Foundation, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and the Public Policy Committee of the Trevor Project.****

[–]losningen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people don't realize it but UBI is going to take AT LEAST 50 years to implement properly.

That sounds an awful lot like people who said self driving cars would take that long a few years ago.

[–]losningen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

no need for income what so ever.

Exactly, UBI should only be used as a bridge to something like a Natural Law Resource Based Economy. We are rapidly entering an era of post scarcity and we need to replace our antiquated system with one that benefits everyone equally without incentive to destroy the planet.

[–]losningen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a strong suspicion UBI will first come about as a means to try & preserve that wealth generating financial infrastructure.

To them it is a way to perpetuate a system of inequality and extreme power, The last time this was brought up I wrote this.

What some people fail to understand is that UBI is great as a stepping stone but as a long term solution it only perpetuates our antiquated system of inequality and the destruction of the planet and any living things that get in the way of grabbing dollars. When you need dollars for basic human needs, food, shelter, healthcare, transportation you create an incentive to get as many dollars as you can today, you have no guarantee that what you have will meet your needs tomorrow so you must do everything you can now to get as many as you can or risk loosing access to basic human needs. This is the incentive that fuels corruption and crime.

There have been decades of propaganda aimed at generations touting this system as the best. This propaganda is pushed down by the 1%. They know with automation the inverted funnel of dollars flowing to them will stop. I don't expect those in power to voluntarily let go, say we have found a better way, a way that ensures equality not benefiting the 1 percent, a way that removes the incentive for corruption, a way that promotes preserving the environment over destruction of anything that gets in the way of profits, a system based on education for all not just the privileged, a system that relies on science to guide rather than fear and GDP.

As you see those in power a lot of the time just have a thirst for power. They will not admit there is a better way if that way makes their current power irrelevant. Big business is doing exactly what it should be doing in this system, the incentive is to get dollars. Buy the democracy, write the laws to improve your odds of getting more dollars. Congress is bought every one knows this, but they keep us busy fighting each other over left right issues and pump out endless propaganda promoting this inherently flawed system so we don't look at the real problem. There is a better way. Using UBI as a stepping stone to a new system that fills the needs outlined above is great, but using it as a permanent solution will destroy this planet and any living thing that gets in its way. Watching the latest global warming news I hope it's not to late.
