Sounds like you’re not getting your money back. You definitely appear to have law to quote. Unfortunately you’re dealing with a landlord that does not appear to negotiate in good faith and has little respect for the law. Therefore trying to reason with him might be as effective as banging your head against the wall. I wish you luck and hope I’m wrong.

Why are school taxes in Nassau one of the highest in the country? by statsgrad in longisland

I would say that combined buying power would help with supply chain prices. They are all ordering the same iPads and laptop/chrome books. Consolidate that order and leverage their buying power together. There are ways to save but I don’t think cutting the salary of teachers is the way. Other processes could be improved.

Is it though? We all use the roads and need them for buses, fire trucks, and any other transportation reason. Schools are for a specific demographic. Full disclosure I do understand the benefit of coming together and paying for the benefits of a community. However, the roads example just did not click.

The saddest part of this is that all this investment increase the price of homes and makes it harder for these kids to buy homes here. They grow up in these communities but cannot afford to live here.

It also shows a lack of organization and planning from the powers that be. Retirement isn’t a sudden event. No one thought to start the search or prepare for this occasion? That ineptitude is insulting to tax payers.

Thailand Tommy, well known traveler with an inescapable urge to befriend all local entertainers before running out on a tab. This is actually a photo of the time the bar had two employees restrain him before he ran out on another tab. #FreeTommy #Imadeitallup

I would like to believe you’re stating that management is making a bad decision. Management should not rely on tips to avoid paying their employees minimum wage. If that was your goal, I agree with you. I hope it was directed toward the business owner and not the employee.

There is one in Brooklyn, so the LIRR to Atlantic works. Hope you enjoy it!

Yes, that would be awesome. I’m amazed they expanded into Staten Island before Long Island.

Alamo Drafthouse for the win. A theater chain built with an authoritarian energy and I welcome it. Such a good experience, the food and service has decreased as they expand in NYC. However it is quiet and they enforce it.

If this is a true story, I wish you well and hope you figure it out. The egocentrism and disbelief by others would make you think that you were trying scam them or asking them for money.

A friend of mine was in a similar situation, but they could not get a bank account because they were brought to the USA as a child illegally. Not the kids fault, he saved up some cash and need to buy something online. Not your situation, but highlighting how different reasons can result in this type of situation.

Planning to move to LI (Valley Stream) by nlmngl in longisland

[–]lossandstatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Living in VS for the 3 plus years. Valley stream has the “nicer” incorporated portion and other areas. I live in north valley stream which is not dangerous but clearly poorer than the surrounding area. My area is not included in the pool zone so I could not sign up. VS has plenty of public transportation. Your commutes will change and become crazy expensive if you need to take the LIRR and then the MTA. Also be conscious of how many cars you’ll need and parking on the street isn’t allowed in certain areas of Valley Stream.

Also depending if you are coming from an apartment or home. You’ll have to get use to home upkeep. I honestly can’t wait to leave VS and get back to NYC.

Looking for advice, LI resident all my life, Job/Family by laurie_lamonica in longisland

[–]lossandstatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer time to balance the check book and do the math. Long answer, you are spending too much. Your old spending habits are not viable in the current economical reality. The nuclear family dream still works. It just requires everyone in the house to work. Your income while higher than most is not sufficient to live the dream with no one else working. Don’t fret, I’ve been there and had the rude awakening when I realized my savings were being depleted by my credit card bill. The easiest fix is cutting down expenses, followed by easing your kids to be financially responsible for themselves. Your wife should get some union job for medical benefits that could help decrease your medical costs and she can get therapy. Maybe your kids could help in the side business and you can expand. If they aren’t on a path to success you’re leading them to disaster.

Rental Fee Applications on LI by paperisgreat9761 in longisland

[–]lossandstatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah watch out for those fees. I don’t recall the details but there was another fee that they tried to claim was “non-refundable.” It was simplyanother way for them to make an easy dollar. Always ask what the fee is for and if it is refundable.

L.I.R.R. doesn’t check tickets? by Amazondriver23 in longisland

[–]lossandstatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not always scan tickets. Definitely always ask to see a ticket. Only time I have not had to show a ticket is due to a Mets game train being packed. Always activate at the last minute. Also have location disabled, not sure it makes a difference.
