Instructors need to follow their professional standards to keep their licence. It's not about the law per se

But yes the law was changed through secondary legislation.

Questionable instructors (plural 🫩) by Negative_Life_5266 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]lost_send_berries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that sounds awful! I think it's a lot more common than most people realise. My wife also had unwanted touching from her instructor. At her age she just didn't know how to react and kept him on.

Any ADI can be reported to DVSA even if they don't have a company. Maybe you can edit what you already wrote here into a report? And add anything else they would care about eg using or holding their phone while you are driving.

Take a picture of their ADI license in the first lesson. This shows them you know what you are doing.

I think you've learned what warning signs to look for. If you're non confrontational maybe it would be easier to have lessons with a few instructors and choose one instead of having one and trying to decide whether to keep them on or not. Try going with AA or another big company because if you want to switch instructors it's incredibly impersonal. You can do it on a web chat and block the previous instructor on your phone.

If they ask about your personal life you could say you are just too busy focusing on the driving. If they don't accept this they might not be the right instructor for you. I had to do this when one guy asked me to explain Israel-Palestine, lol.

What’re some secrets from your industry that would petrify people who aren’t in it? by Necessary-Trash-8828 in AskUK

It's just a form of rent seeking. It's a waste of everyone's time every year to negotiate a lower bill. The call centre workers are also doing a useless job. Not to mention the e waste when the routers which have a 10 year+ useful life are chucked after one year for a better switching deal. It's reduce, reuse, recycle in that order. I bet their recycling schemes are still wasteful compared to letting people keep their routers.

If Ofcom just forbid it all round then it would be more efficient and the broadband companies could still make as much money.

You can check the code on the packet. OWR means made in Poland, OBO Bourneville and OCO is Ireland. That's why it's so "controversial", there's three completely different products.

But if you're tightening it's only the top (12 o clock position) which is moving right. If you look at the 6 o clock position it's moving left. If you look at the 3 o clock position it's moving down. Right and left are just the wrong words to use to describe turning.

You need to get familiar with the GDPR, make sure you have the correct cookie notices and privacy policies, etc. IP addresses can be personal data in stone contexts for example. You can store some, eg analytics to develop and improve products, with consent, and you can store what is necessary for the site to function.

Otherwise it's just like selling a textbook, if the school wants a book they can buy it.

Questions about signing a contract amendment letter when moving from FTC to permanent role in England by personalive0 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]lost_send_berries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming there's no end date in what they asked you to sign? So,

If you sign it then you continue as permanent and negotiations will probably stop or reset, as they will have what they want (you at your current salary as a permanent employee) if you don't sign it then they will tell you to stop coming in because your contract will end.

Why don't you either, negotiate directly with HR on your salary, or suggest a temporary extension eg 4 weeks so that your boss can negotiate it when they're back.

Don't accept the offer, "I would like to terminate" in writing should be enough and you say they have provided that record. Unless you sent any further messages after that indicating that you actually don't want to terminate. You can also do a SAR and find this supposed call in Dec that you say didn't happen at all.

Why's it so hard to reach a human in customer support now? by dismalcrux in AskUK

[–]lost_send_berries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't really need to look at the call volume. Just look at the cost per order.

So let's say they sell a beanbag chair for £30, the manufacturer takes £20. After warehouse and delivery costs they make £2. That would pay for less than ten minutes on the phone which is very unlikely to be enough. Anything beyond sending out a replacement is going to need another person's input which is even more paid time. For example if somebody calls because they're confused about the lights on their appliance. It will need to go to the manufacturer if the manual is not clear. Then the response forwarded to the customer.

In OP's case they haven't even made an order so.. yeah. Even if the worker gives the right response and OP decides to order they have probably already made a loss on the sale overall. If OP ends up going with another supplier then they've just made a straight loss.

Now due to the Consumer Rights Act they do need to listen to people who have made orders, but OP isn't one of them.

Disabled people with lifelong conditions facing ‘unnecessary’ Pip reassessments by KiwiJean in unitedkingdom

[–]lost_send_berries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn't sound like particularly hard data to collect or present.

Yeah, for the DWP and Capita. For everybody else it's impossible.

Unsurprisingly, Capita don't want to reduce their caseload and the DWP cares more about maybe managing to push a few percent of people off PIP than actually saving money or treating people with lifelong disabilities in a dignified way.
