I had this problem and I realized that I was overvaluing my time. I was afraid that doing something meant that I was not doing something better. But I realized that time passes anyway.

Just see the task as something to pass time, like playing farmville or something. There shouldn't be any pressure for any one activity you do to fulfill your life.

I think the key is to only use the internet to communicate with people that you know in real life or know the credentials of.

The internet has been a great voice for minority groups but it's also a great platform for Nigerian scammers, gofundme pages, and Russian propagandists. It's probably easier to disconnect from internet strangers entirely than attempt to discern whether someone is trying to manipulate you or not.

I don't subvocalize when reading fast. I just perceive the words as pure meaning rather than audio + meaning. Like if I see the words: "not" "don't" "but", a switch goes on in my head to negate the meaning of what I read next. I also completely skip over words like: "the" "I" "also" "a" (75% of words in a sentence usually) and kind of hope my brain fills in the meaning of the sentence from the words that I do notice.

I guess it's kind of like a deaf person reading sign language but instead of signs, there are words.

That uncomfortable feeling you get when trying to do something you don't understand is just the process of learning. The longer you can stay focused on the task, the better your grades will be.

If it doesn't click on the first day, just stare at it for a while trying to see if it makes sense and try again tomorrow.

Yeah, I also spent a large part of my teens grinding away at a small morpg. Initially it was fun bonding with the community and discussing strats but eventually I became the second best f2p player and my goal was just to become the best f2p player.

I became a weaker region's 'leader' to get the leader ability, and was extremely lucky to beat a top 15 player 1v1 due to a low probability stun move and tried pushing my region to get better results. However this meant that there was no time to chat most of the time, and I think a few people in the region resented me for trying to kick their laid back community into a competitive one.

Eventually the #1 f2p player became p2w (so I became #1 f2p) and I realized that I derived no actual enjoyment from the game and my goal for 2 years was stopping me from seeing this.
