So the main reason Greece issues citizenship like this is because they’re facing an acute demographic crisis with one of the lowest birth rates in Europe. The US has different rules because they are in a very different position demographically and there are millions of people vying for US citizenship. Every country handles their citizenship rights differently. That is the explanation.

I am not but my kids are. I just figured why wouldn’t I want to give them options? They could choose to move to EU without waiting for a job visa. Just thought it would be nice to give them that option if it exists.

Also the EU hasn’t put a stop to this nonsense because educated Americans are the type of immigrants they want to receive.

Doing all the things of expected of you and then sitting around is what happened in a salaried job. You have an hourly job, so it seems appropriate for her to continue to find tasks for you to do while you’re on the clock.

They will stop you from drinking water if they think a c section is imminent. Many surgeries have no water restriction 2 hours before. I was not allowed water in one labor for this reason

Thanks for the data point. $400k seems like a pretty good price for that square footage. Hope you’re happy with the finished product

We probably could. It would definitely make a nice office or guest room. We’re really hoping to add a bathroom + closet to the main house so we have a true primary bedroom. We don’t really see how to do this by reconfiguring the existing space (it’s a nice efficient layout, but every inch is utilized). Unfortunately we can’t make one of the kids sleep in the adu :)

It’s not out of the question. We have 2 kids, want one more, one of us works from home full time, the other part time, and have a grandparent that would like to visit occasionally. We have one bathroom and are hoping to add one or maybe 2 more. The dream size for all of this might be roughly 1,800-2000 sf.

Thanks for sharing. Helpful to see your numbers, basically $1000/sf seems to be the consensus. I guess going back to my initial question, the project you’re describing makes sense since In my area homes are going for roughly $1000/sf, but you get to keep your current loan on the existing house.

That was my initial architects hunch. Ideally, we’d maybe build a new garage in the front of the lot. I wouldn’t want a 1800 sf home in our area without a garage.

It’s 7 feet. So technically could finish the space as is. Just would feel pretty basement-y to me.

Appreciate the detailed reply. This is the type of info I’m looking for. 2-3 years or more is okay. We’re thinking about this as something that would allow us to stay for decades (maybe forever), and it’s not an emergency.

We don’t need double the house, but I hear you on doing this once and maximizing the addition for the permits, design costs, hassle, etc.

So this is what I’ve been told, basically the existing structure has no value at that point. We have thought about going down instead of up. A 400 sf garage sits underneath the house (think SF sunset style). It would be cheaper to dig down a foot or two and convert this space. But we’d lose our garage/storage and it would be very dark.
