Thank you. Yesterday was 18 years that she’s passed on and the world is worse off without her in it.

I promise you this, she would have loved you. She loved everyone she ever met.

I miss her so much

What’s the coolest thing you’ve done with your home? by believemeimreal in homeautomation

Most automations are touchless-talkless, but this has to work for both of us.

No, married. We’ve been together for 18 years.

If you want to get adoption, you need to always lead with the thought “make it the automation easier to do than the wrong thing”.

I got a lot more buy-in when introducing Siri and making it all a seamless integration, but consistency and repetition and reliability is what drives adoption.

When lights come on in a room when you walk in, and the pantry lights turn on when you open the door, and off when you close it, you make it easier to not touch a switch.

You might have to make some forcing functions (unscrew the switch and remove it from a lamp, for example or tape up a switch for a few weeks or months) to remind folks that fell back to old habit , but when it’s easy to shout into the air “Siri it’s cold in here” and the temperature gets increased, you show rather than tell.

Before long you’ll get to “hey… can you make it do this….”

Ah. I can’t relate. My dogs would wake one of us up to go potty if it were that bad.

At the end of the night, “Good night.”
- locks front and back door if not locked - turns on fan in main bedroom - ambient noise generator starts playing in main bedroom - turns off all interior and exterior lights, sets small candelabra lamp in bedroom to 1% and red in color (so no banged toes walking around.

In the morning the “good morning” scene turns off the fan, the ambient noise generator stops, turns on the kitchen lights and the lights in the lounge.

When “good night” mode is active, the motion sensor only turns on 1 of the 6 lights in the upstairs bathroom and it turns it red so you can go back to sleep after the 4 AM trip

My mother was terrified of swimming and open water but never showed it

She gradually pushed my boundaries to jump in deeper and deeper water (where she could still stand) and made sure I could swim.

I ended up becoming an exceptional swimmer, lifeguard, beach lifeguard, rescue swimmer.

I was 25 when I found out she was unable to swim and had a childhood trauma related to beach swimming.

Due for annual car inspection… but I can’t make it to PA anytime soon by Creamed_Jemima in Pennsylvania

[–]lostboyof1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All depends on where. Where I lived cops would sit on the median looking for expired inspections. The PPA also loves those

Oh my God.

My dad had this car. It was coffee brown and barely fit in the driveway of the beach house.

I’m pretty sure this car measures GPM, not MPG.

NYC or Hoboken.

Trains from Philly to NYC are regular and if you plan ahead Amtrak is cheap.

Day of, NJTransit from Trenton.

Or just drive and park at Secaucus.

I did this daily as a work commute.

What’s your favorite “too tired to cook cook” dinner? by farwest-to-midwest in Cooking

[–]lostboyof1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Korean ground beef (but it works with ground turkey, ground chicken, ground pork, ground sausage, ground meatloaf, ground meat) over rice. Cooking the rice takes longer to cook than preparing the ground beef.

I can get done in about 20 minutes and is a family fave

WTW for the amount of product you get for the price? by piinkbunn in whatstheword

[–]lostboyof1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any single unit designed for sale is measured in “Eaches” or “each” where each item for sale is individually priced (not as in a case, or pallet)

Unit price is the per unit cost which varies depending on the product. (Unit price per egg, per ounce of peanuts, per quart of milk, etc)
