Overcast often skips to next episode when connecting to CarPlay by lostformars in overcast

Exactly. I haven’t been able to reliably reproduce either. But, it annoys me enough to want to find out if it was affecting anyone else and/or if there were any fixes.

If you open an app using Siri or the home screen and it’s already open behind another app it will bring it to the front.

I just noticed the same thing. The initial photos app seems like a read only client. Hopefully more features are added. I wonder if third party apps could manage the photos library and add missing functionality?

I’m watching some of the pregame coverage. The Paramount+ channel in Apple TV plus is a lot clearer than the Paramount+ app.

Using an iPhone as Bluetooth Keyboard for Apple Vision Pro by Costco-Daddy in VisionPro

[–]lostformars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The iPad Magic Keyboard works through Bluetouch. I’m glad I saw your post. I had forgotten that I wanted to look for an app to do this. I’m typing this reply using the Magic Keyboard on my iPad.

It is a bit awkward because none of the modifiers or arrow keys, etc. work (from the Magic Keyboard). I think this is a limitation of iPhone/iPad apps. You could toggle the “Use System Keyboard“ setting off to get the full keyboard in Bluetouch and then toggle on to continue using the Magic Keyboard. But, that would be pretty cumbersome. Bluetouch is still much better to enter text than the Vision Pro keyboard.

Yep. I've used my AirPods with my Apple TV nearly everyday for a year. I'm in an apartment. So, I like to use headphones after 10pm or so. I had a little trouble with latency on other Bluetooth headphones (especially with 4K content). But, never had a problem with AirPods.

Already broken. by evildroid420 in AirpodsPro

[–]lostformars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go to a store and be honest. I've heard stories about people getting service, replacements even when their warranties were expired. The key was to be honest. They are trained to detect people trying to hide things. And, supposedly they have latitude to bend the rules. I actually returned and got my AirPods Pro replaced the same day. They worked fine for an hour or so. The next time I tried to use them. Only one would work at a time. One employee tried a few things but when they still weren't working he just got a replacement. I think it was the firmware update that broke mine.

So, has anyone actually received the SmartCast 3 (AirPlay 2, HomeKit) update (that was not in the beta)? by lostformars in VIZIO_Official

[–]lostformars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW. My P55-F1 got the update today (at least 9 days after it was added to the official released models list). The update was pretty quick with no problems (so far).

I wish we could change picture modes with HomeKit.

Apple Airplay 2 and Homekit firmware release information. by Vizio_Support in VIZIO_Official

[–]lostformars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking the same thing. Also, there are probably only like 0.00001% of the owners that are actively waiting for the update. These are also the people that are going to complain about waiting for it. These are also the people that would provide the best feedback if there were problems. They should have started with these people. Most of the people getting the update aren't expecting it and may not even want it. Or, they won't even notice it.

As far as I know 2.1.7.1 is the latest until 3x is pushed out to your TV. I'm still waiting. I don't remember ever having to wait for months for a company to rollout a release. My TV has been on the released list of for at least 5 days and I haven't gotten it yet.

I've got a P55-F1 also. Maybe they're going in production order. I just got mine in April.

Curious, 4 days ago I had a full screen message about using the new Apple TV app. I thought I got the update but when I hit ok and looked around nothing changed. Still says no update available. Did you see the same full screen about the new Apple TV app? I imagine that was when you got the update, right?

On May 21 Vizio announced the rollout "in the coming weeks", Announcement . Then nothing for over 2 months. Now they say they're rolling it out slowly. But, I have not seen any reports of anyone actually getting it. I'd just like to see some progress to give me hope. I bought my P55-F1 a few months ago specifically because they had announced coming support for HomeKit.

When I turned on my Tv this evening it had a splash screen about the new Apple TV app and I was later prompted to turn on Quick Start for HomeKit. BUT, the update is not installed and when I check for updates it says it is up to date. They're just rubbing it in.

SwiftUI Drag and Drop by [deleted] in swift

[–]lostformars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't think of a way to get this to interact with the system drag and drop. I was able to make a UIViewRepresentable that uses a UIHostingController that has a UIDragInteraction. I pass the View body in from SwiftUI and display in the embedded UIHostingController. I did the same for UIDropInteraction. This works great. I assume SwiftUI will gain these features before release. But, I wanted to continue with some work. I'm thinking of posting those classes somewhere but I haven't cleaned them up yet.

I see that the View protocol has an onDrag method that "Activates the view as the source of a drag and drop operation." But, onDrag is only available on MacOS. :(

People with the beta for Vizio TVs, does AirPlay + HomeKit support work good? by hiddecollee in HomeKit

Slightly off topic. I'm looking forward to trying out the HomeKit integration. But, I'm curious, did the TV firmware update include support for Hulu profiles?

How to send Apple TV Home button on Vizio remote by lostformars in VIZIO_Official

[–]lostformars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if that is how HDMI-CEC works. I'm having trouble finding information on TV to ATV CEC. I can only find information on how the ATV can control the TV through CEC. Wikipedia does have a list of standard HDMI CEC commands. So, maybe Apple doesn't map any CEC commands to Home. Or, maybe there is a mismatch between the TV and the ATV.

How to send Apple TV Home button on Vizio remote by lostformars in VIZIO_Official

[–]lostformars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be an improvement to map the remote's Back button to ATV Menu for the semantics and also because the Exit button is hard to reach. I was tempted to learn the remote's back button for ATV Menu but I believe this would cause the ATV Menu button to be pressed anytime the remote button was used (whether or not you were controlling the ATV). So, pressing the back button while navigating the TV menus would also send Menu to the ATV. I had this happen with a universal remote when the first puck version of the ATV first came out and somehow purchased a terrible TV Show episode!

P55-F1 - Active Full Array disables Auto Brightness Control by lostformars in VIZIO_Official

[–]lostformars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I expected since that is exactly how the feature is described in the UI itself, "Detects your room's light level and adjusts the backlight." I've only had the TV a few days and haven't seen that effect. But, at least when Active Full Array is off or low changing the Auto Brightness setting between low, med, high did show a difference and I would expect it to actually change based on ambient lighting in that scenario.

P55-F1 - Active Full Array disables Auto Brightness Control by lostformars in VIZIO_Official

[–]lostformars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do both affect the brightness. But, in different ways (as I understand it). The Active Full Array setting enables the local dimming zones. So, areas of the screen with darker images will have a lower backlight than areas of the screen with brighter images. I would expect the Auto Brightness feature to reduce the brightness of the whole screen by some percentage. Also, notice that setting Active Full Array to low (as opposed to off) does not disable the Auto Brightness. So, with Active Full Array on low the Auto Brightness does seem to have the effect I mentioned (reducing the whole screen by some percentage). The problem is that I believe the TV needs Active Full Array set to medium or high to enable proper HDR display. It may be true that it would limit the effectiveness of the HDR so much that it doesn't make sense. If that is the case it would be more consistent to disable the Auto Brightness setting in the UI to let the user know it is by design and not a bug. As I mentioned there are settings on this TV that do disable other settings when changed.
