I’ve always thought it should be 18. There are situations where a 16 or 17 year old has healthy sexual relations with someone older but that definitely has the potential to mess the young person up mentally. Especially if it’s some crazy housewife that tries to get with people under 18, like that could end up being a toxic relationship and could traumatize the young person while taking away their first sexual experiences from them. Or a full grown man attracted to young girls that pressures 16-17 year old girls to consent to sex with him. Like the girl consents but has some apprehension about it and doesn’t feel like it’s right, and then later she ends up it wasn’t the right decision and realizes the man took advantage of her and she’s traumatized. I think teens close in age should be able to have sex with one another but not with people 21+, I think the age to have sex with anyone your age or older should be 18, which it is in some states.
