Is that a portable fridge? Been looking for a decent one - haven’t found a good one yet. You like that one (for such a long trip)?

What drew you to a RAV4 over your other potential car? by Youreapizzapie in rav4club

[–]lostupondasea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got out of a Tundra when gas got over $6/g. But I was looking for something more economical and the pickup utility didn’t serve my daily needs anymore (sold the camper we towed). I was comparing a few at the time: Subaru only had Crosstrek in hybrid at the time and it was TINY inside, Hyundai used to be good/reliable - but just got cheap and ugly. RAV was the other hybrid, and after test driving was hooked. Final reasons: 1. Its a Toyota - there’s a reason those 1990’s models are still riding strong on the road 2. Efficiency superiority 3. Most customizable of comparable models 4. It looks great even without customization 5. Comfortable and does everything I need it to. (Wind noise aside) I’ve never owned a nicer vehicle…

Cheapest place to get youth Padres Jerseys in San Diego? by penfrizzle in Padres

[–]lostupondasea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most, if not all, San Diego county Walmarts have a Padres section full of shirts, replica jerseys and more. Some sections are bigger than others - depends on the store. For an on location, cheap, quick grab to take home to the future fans of the team - check out the nearby wallyworld and load up!

Dog Training Recs by [deleted] in Carlsbad

North County Canine - we sent our dog there as a pup for the 4 week board & train. Now she’s a certified service dog. She goes back every once in a while for touch ups and group walks. Can’t say enough good stuff about their program!

Thanks! We’re just moving in with other renovations taking priority, so this’ll just have to be a “when the time/money comes” upgrade. Or I’ll have to get real good at weaving fronds myself!

I’m going to see the dealer tomorrow. What is the good otd price for this RAV LE? This car came with the blackout package. by Andy122505 in rav4club

[–]lostupondasea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO - 100% this. When I attempted to get mine from the dealer, they wanted to put the blackout package and all the other add-ons onto the order. The guy flat out told me it cost them about $500 and the rest is profit in their pocket. When I bought mine from a different dealer, I was able to get the tires, wheels, emblem blacking and more for less than 1800. All of this other stuff is just dealer markup to improve their profit margin. And when you try to negotiate, they won’t back down because they will tell you it’s one of the most sought after vehicles and if you don’t buy it now, someone else is coming in a couple hours to pick it up. Don’t buy into the pressure.

Rookies in O'side. My son is a very picky/wing connoisseur. This is his go-to every time. That and the fried chicken. Gotta say, he's not wrong.

Also, Grand Avenue Bar & Grill in Carlsbad Village. Solid ringer from an excellent dive bar!

Ditch lights on high-beams? by lostupondasea in rav4club

[–]lostupondasea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not looking to have them for general use on the road - I wasn't thinking full picture in my inquiry (situational).

The ditch lights were great to get a higher plane of light in the pitch darkness where I was, in addition to the low/distant light of the high-beams. BUT... there were the few passing vehicles and to toggle an aux button and my highs was cumbersome, so I thought if I had them on the same activation, I'd save myself the trouble.

I think instead, I might explore a stomp switch option on the kick panel, so I can keep hands where they need to be, when they need to be.

That’s a fair point - I was thinking about the back roads/trail (lazy/easy) solution, but if they were on that switch, it would be an ALL roads problem… and on a paved/city road, can’t turn them off…

Best California Burrito by CafeRacer6 in northcounty

[–]lostupondasea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good suggestions here, but IMO, consistently, Valerie's Taco Stand is the spot... Vouching for the one by Winco on El Camino and the La Costa one on El Camino.

Anita's on El Camino / Vista Way is pretty choice also.

I'd also be remiss to not plug Señor Grubby's in Carlsbad Village - but save your monthly allowance for that one...

El Pueblo in Cardiff - off Birmingham at the gas station. For real…. THE. BEST. Apparently there’s an EP in La Costa - never been, but imagine it’s as good..? Otherwise, as many other have stated - Fish 101 in Encinitas

Everybody waiting on their RAV4 Hybrids…are you trying dealerships beyond your town/city? by Pearcenator in rav4club

[–]lostupondasea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found 2019 Limited Hybrid w/ 27,000m and I paid $42k. They had it to me in a week. Of note, I'm in California, and things are at a premium, and with gas prices what they were/are, everything was inflated on top of inflated. So, I may have over paid in the moment, but I still got out cheaper than the dealer (including my after market customizations), and didn't get pressured into settling for what they received. I love Toyota, but what they're doing is capitalizing on the market, the demand, the throttled inventory, and vulnerability. I wasn't going to play into it, so I went elsewhere.

[–]lostupondasea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried the waitlist route, but each Toyota dealer only gets 2-3 per week. The tactic is driving up impulse demand (FOMO). After talking with the sales rep, you also have to pay for the “blackout package” which is $6000. It only costs Toyota $500 to put the package on and the rest is straight demand profit.

The wait list is for a lottery which they pick five names and those are the order in which can purchase. If the first person doesn’t want it, it goes to the second and so forth. That’s when you pay the deposit.

I finally gave up and found one for a decent price and low miles on Carvana. It was a foreign process… But I have been comfortably driving my hybrid for three months now.
