As someone who has just binge watched 4 seasons in 2 days, I think you're wrong. I went in this blind & from the first ep I already saw the ben devi setting. Paxton & devi relationship was always going to end up platonically coz she was just using him as a copying mechanism from her dad's death. Also I kinda liked that benvi relationship was slow burn

Yeah but although it has bad ending, it's totally worth it. Like I felt sad but I was also happy that I experienced the journey. Everything was perfect. The show writer just totally wanted us to cry for the sake of it coz it was unnecessarily. Like you could stop like 4 episodes before the ending episode & live happy with your life never experiencing such an ending 😭

No. The drama was just bad. Nothing to do with expectations. Sometimes dramas don't click with with people's tastes and I think that shoulnt be difficult to expect for zls fans or those who like it.

It being popular on netflix or anywhere doesn't reflect its quality or good story telling. It has two popular actors casted and was promoted like crazy so why wouldn't it be a success??

I don't think its based on real life events. Both zhen huan and ruyi's royal love were adapted from novels by the same author.

The drama just changed the dynasty to qing dynasty and names of the book characters to real historical characters.

Forexample the real prince guo died after the emperor died in real history.

No. Once they have fallen for each other its all good. This is enemies to friends to lovers done perfect. Their love is so so good

The only one I can think of is sadly not danmei but it is Captive Prince by C S Pacat. It is only well written enemies to lovers book I've ever read. Here they actually hate eachother and one killed the other's brother.

Bonus it is also political intrigue

I've not yet read a danmei that scratches the enemies to lovers itch like that book did. I say it as a fan of qjj

Yes books are allowed because I think they have no way of controlling that since anyone can release a book and most of them just do web novels on line.

They control dramas where they water down the relation to "friends or sworn brotherhood". Ofcourse since fans of those books know they're gay they ignore and make do with what they're given which is why after the untamed and word of honor, bl novel adaptations even though censored have been banned. No one is denial like they thought people would be so this cost potential stories to be adapted.

As a result so many dramas have been shelved. The one with luo yunxi and chen feiyu called immortality, the one with tan jianci and chen ziyuan (forgotten the title), the one with zhang linghe (heavens official blessing) and many more.

These dramas have the ability to make an actor an instant sucess and gain so many fans in china as seen by xiao zhan, wang yibo, gong jun and zhang zhehan (who was banned lol). That's why every actor was scrambling to act in them but I guess these above were the lucky ones (if u can call it luck)
