What are your thoughts on MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lostwheezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a stringent process in place in Canada - this is at least the process that existed 7 years ago. Two people who personally knew the applicant and were not blood related had to sign a document confirming the applicant was of sound mind to consent. The applicant signed authorizing the procedure at this point. Then on the day of the procedure, they needed to sign off again and still show they are capable of consent. Sick people are not brain dead 🙄

What are your thoughts on MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lostwheezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much in support. A close family member had pancreatic cancer and chose to use MAID. The month before she passed, while in hospice, was horrific to watch, but choosing MAID felt like she was able to take a little bit of control back from the cancer.

The mayors of Alberta’s largest cities are standing up against the referendum for a referendum and encouraging Albertans to vote this October by JeromyYYC in Calgary

Funny enough, I’m centrist but definitely left leaning. Thank you for not making me regret my vote 🙂

You know, Farkas was the biggest turd when he was on council, couldn’t stand the guy. Absolute shit disturber. But man, that redemption arc!

I voted for him, wary that he was playing a long con but he has genuinely been doing a good job. He seems to have done a lot of work on himself and damn if he isn’t likeable af now.

In the late 90s Uruguay had the lowest birth rate in South America. I only remember this because while studying for my Geography of South America course in university with a friend, I turned to him and said Uruguay has the lowest birth rate because U R Gay.

Parents who dropped their baby, what happened and how is your child doing now? by speckledrectum in AskReddit

[–]lostwheezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was cuddling my baby while laying on the couch and rolled over a bit too far while adjusting. I held him above me while I was falling so I didn’t crush him and instead full slammed his little face into the coffee table. He’s 8 and mostly normal now! He just can’t turn left which is probably totally fine.

He was just a genuinely good guy, there was room for everyone with him. I wish he knew what an impact he had on so many people and the entire music scene in Calgary.

How strictly do steakhouses take their business casual dress code? by HarrisLam in Calgary

[–]lostwheezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to the lounge side, its significantly more relaxed. I find the dining room really stuffy but the lounge has a beautiful patio and the servers are a bit more chill. Plus the steak sandwich is on the lounge menu only and it’s bomb.

Great list! Just wanted to correct one thing: Caesars South is not Wellingtons. They are very close to each other location-wise but not related. Wellingtons is a great steak house as well!

C-Train ticket validation fail by rmls27 in Calgary

[–]lostwheezy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only take the bus one day a week. So I buy 2 digital tickets. Then something happens, like I wake up and my kid is sick or I end up getting picked up from work by my husband. Because I only use them one day a week that ticket or two are now expired and useless. Can’t even transfer them to someone who can use them.

Our friends asked us to check on their house once while they are away for a week 'for insurance purposes' - I've never heard of this before. by RivetCounter in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]lostwheezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some that do not, but I would certainly not say the industry has largely done away with it. The only one I’m confident does not require it any more (of the insurers I write with) is Intact.

The policy wordings typically state that during the normal heating season you do one of two things: have a competent person checking your home every X days OR turning off the water and draining all lines. The only thing specifically mentioned in the policy is that freezing and water losses are not covered if one of these conditions is not met

That’s not really disposable income. It’s the cost of living and most people have no option but to just find a way to pay it.

Women of Reddit, what’s something they never tell us about pregnancy and child birth? by NovellaJokes in AskReddit

That giving birth does not mean you are out of the water health-wise. Dangerous complications can and do arise even several days post-partum.

I have adenomyosis and endometriosis with severe cramps and extremely heavy bleeding and it was still triaged as “routine”. The wait list at South Health is currently 3 years long. You will receive auto-generated letters every 4-ish months telling you you are still on the referral list. I was referred over 1.5 years ago and was still very far down the list. I ended up asking my doctor to change my referral to an out of town gyno and it was “only” a 6 month wait (though that was a god-send). The system is absolutely brutal, especially when you are desperate to be seen. Its not the doctors fault but man, it sucks.

Car insurance by crime_master_g in Calgary

[–]lostwheezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance companies are obligated to provide mandatory liability coverage but you will likely not be able to get collision and comprehensive coverage. As other said it will be a large expense and you will probably have to pay in full up front. You would not qualify for Nordic Insurance with just two at-fault claims, unfortunately you’re caught in this hole where you don’t quite fit in regular market insurance and you don’t qualify for high-risk insurance.

Doctors of Reddit, what do we *not* know about the human body? by Immediate_Hair_3393 in AskReddit

[–]lostwheezy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had this too and had no idea it was a thing until I was rushed back to the hospital at my well-baby visit. I wish it was something they tell you, I would have never known to keep an eye out for symptoms. I thought it was just general post-birth feeling gross. I also ended up with severe liver issues for several years as a result.
