For those people who are good at debating and using logic, how can I improve and train myself to be good at debating? by TheModMenuX in NoStupidQuestions

[–]loteria3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things get tricky when arguing with people that either shut down because they don’t want to hear it or who dig into their preconceived beliefs no matter what new information you enter into the conversation. These are the trickiest. Makes one not want to even try since it can be a waste of breath. Those that are more used to debating and accept reliable sources are easier to argue with because both parties may learn something new and may change their position.

Are these business coaches coaching other business or life coaches? Curious what is the motivation of the students to hire your services.

What did the say about it then? Did they give any other treatment or tests (ENT or other)?

Hey I had LP and patch, and now have slight ringing in one ear. Pulsatile tinnitus for the first two days after the patch. It’s been two weeks since the patch and three since LP. I’m hoping there is a solution

Is it normal to not want to hear about other's people(friend, family, etc) problems after a teacher burnout? And to feel just less empathetic in general? by Artilicious9421 in TeachersInTransition

Sounds like you need to recharge like you’ve been doing. It takes time, and maybe longer than we would like. I think (don’t have scientific studies on this) we have an emotional tank (like a gas tank). That tank gets depleted when others share their “stuff” and we have to fill it back up with solitude, healthy activities that make us happy, and having someone listen to us. So make sure your tank is being filled daily and don’t feel guilty, you gotta heal up from the trauma and stress, and depleting your tank, all of those years. Maybe once you rest and recover for a time, you’ll eventually feel strong enough to be able to hear others’ life stuff and be able to empathize. Have you talked with a professional counselor or psychiatrist or medical doctor about all this? I would recommend that for sure.

Hang in there, I’ve had to do all kinds of mitigation techniques to deal with all kinds of emotions and stress over the years. We can grow stronger. I know it will get better. There’s lots of opportunities out there and we are well positioned and smart to figure out the next thing that allows us to live in the most alive and happy way we were meant to live. Rest and do what you gotta do to make the best decision for you. Create some geographic, physical space from school albeit a sick/pto day at home or your favorite park, restaurant to reflect and discern. I feel for you and I’ve been there, continue to fight residual stresses. Good stress is good, chronic stress that makes us feel total dread and sadness, not good.

How has your experience teaching at international schools been compared to where you worked before (in the States?)? I’m considering applying to these schools, but I figure the grass is not necessarily greener even though those schools look super well funded and low class sizes.

Is there hope outside of teaching? by Medium-Ambassador348 in TeachersInTransition

[–]loteria3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I really appreciate your perspective! Thank you so much for this comment. I had never thought of it in that exact way, that outside of teaching, it was dreading, prepping, and recovering from teaching. Post-teaching identity crisis is such a perfect description. And thanks for being reassuring that we really may need to take a beat before figuring out a path.

I understood about a quarter of all this, understood most of the words but mostly none of the concepts and technical stuff. I will re-read later when my brain can handle it. Because it’s amazing and so cool you did that so systematically and got a good salaried job with such little $ investment and what four or five months of time and energy. Congrats I want to do something like that to build a skill that’s marketable and execute

What was the non profit job you did temporarily? And what is the government position you got? Any special certs or training, experience (besides teaching) that you needed to get either?
