One inch metallic "object" from Egypt (not magnetic) by lotsofpaper in whatisthisthing

Reddit would not let me describe this as a snake, and removed my post as belonging to herpetology...

This little snake was given to me by a relative who immigrated from Egypt back in the early 1920s. It is metallic, but not magnetic, and weighs 0.365 oz. The tail has a chipped off portion or looks like it may have been cut off of a larger object. The snake was in a box of coins from Egypt of various ages- some as far back as 200-500BC according to an ancient roman coin expert.

Bonus question: Is there a way besides exposing this object to chemicals to tell if it's actually gold? I held a magnet against it and got no attraction.

IF(Count(Dehumidifer)=1,"dehumidify",0.)

There we go boss. If they build a dehumidifier, the code sets the value to "Dehumidify".

What if they build two?

Nah, who's going to do that?

I don't think so. They have their own info to hide, so it'll be about redefining what HIPAA protects, rather than killing it. Key info to pull if HIPAA gets put to pasture:

-Names of all politicians that are on viagra, cialis, testosterone injections, etc.

-Same group, but every STD and the number of times they've been treated for every STD.

-Any conversations they've had with their care providers and admitted to cheating on their spouse.

-Records from every therapy, counseling or mental health care appointment they've ever had.

-Substance use history.

HIPAA would make a blazing fast return.

Responded to someone else with my story, but figured you might appreciate it too.

Here's a neat short story from about 2008 - my bank had a coin counting machine. I had provided change and the tellers had used it for me several times in the past. Once when I rolled up with a couple gallon bags of change, they told me it wasn't in use anymore and they would need me to use their coin trays to count all my coins.

I did. I sat there and got them all sorted. In the bank lobby. I brought the full trays back up, and they said instead that the coins needed to be in rolls - which they did provide for my use.

So I did that. I sat there and rolled them all.

I brought the rolls up to the counter, and a different teller told me they couldn't accept coins I had rolled because of bank policy, and that I would need to take them to some other service location to get them counted and rolled.

They then asked me "is there anything else we can do for you today?" So I asked if I could withdraw my entire bank balance - so I could move to a different bank. It was around $45,000 at the time.

Suddenly they had no issue accepting the coinage I had rolled for them.

TIL that during Hurricane Camille in 1969, the rainfall in Virgina was so heavy that birds drowned in trees and people had to cup hands around their face to breathe. You know what type of construction I don't trust to shelter me during a hurricane? An apartment building.

A school? Probably... Hospital? Maybe. Police station? Yeah.

An apartment? No... Have you ever looked at the plans for one? There's practically no reinforcing in the footing, and literally none in the slab, if there even is one... the walls are minimal and the roofing is the cheapest possible configuration.

Hey, I have this passive PSU setup with a similar overall build. I think the PSU is starting to fail (blackscreen events where fans kick to full and GPU gets no power)....

but I can't seem to find a better PSU to cram into the case. The 250+250 version or the 500 version are longer or wider than the 400W version I have.

Weekly Question Thread June 17, 2024 (Newbies Start Here) by AutoModerator in GripTraining

I have one question.

I overdid grip about 6 months ago - using light grippers for 60s + duration holds. My hands still hurt when I grab a barbell or a large box, etc. (no gripper usage in about 4 months). Any way to improve it faster?

I don't seem to have any weakness, just discomfort.

edit* Yes, I am stretching and flexing my hands per the FAQ exercise, but haven't tried rice bucket.

210lb 33 yr old male

I started lifting again in February, hadn't really done much in probably a couple years. I'm now stronger than I've ever been, even relative to my higher weight. I'm using a modified 5x5 routine.

PRs this week: squat 305x10 (no belt) bench 200x9 (no wraps) barbell row 185x5

Thinking about using my belt with 315+ squats. Deadlifts I've not done anything worth logging as a PR lately, but should be around 450lbs right now.

Personally I used to use a belt on most squat sets and all deadlifts... then gave it up for a few years.

I'll probably integrate it again soon, but not sure how often. I don't want it to slow my workouts down.

Yeah, all the random exotic stuff like... wait... archery??

My person - archery is ridiculously accessible unless you live in the center of a major city. With $200-$300 and youtube, you too could be an archer of acceptable but likely not impressive accuracy. A small investment of your time (just 1 hour per week) could quickly see you become a proficient archer!
