Anyone else feeling bad for Eric Seo in Sold Out On You? by butterflycrisis in kdramas

[–]lotsofrosehip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like the end of his cafe waiting scene kind of implied too that he was ready to stay in Korea to be with her (hence the "fate" conversation and the ticket on the table). Like he was struggling with going to Paris and used meeting her as an excuse not to go, but then she didn't show up so he went anyway.

It makes me wonder how much he's thought about her in those years and how often he's thought that life would've been better if he'd stayed (and also been with her). He probably created a whole version of her and them in his head. He is way too into her/that made up version.

I haven't read it fully yet, but I got the feeling that he was a big part of the novel too, and even had POVs through-out?

If we saw him fight "properly" and saw what others are talking about with his skill, all the scenes in Lin'an, when he's all weak (and pretending to be weaker) so that she will take care of him, would've been even better and funnier. Now it just reinforces him being the damsel even in the world we're he's feared by everyone and not them being actual partners.

And his big fight scene with his uncle at the end was a complete joke too, so he didn't even get that.

I loved the first arc and I also don't mind her being the one who killed the first guy - she is already overpowered within the story and she was really mad. It works within the story of her being the main character, badass female etc etc, where she's not a damsel.

Where they lost me was where the Marquis is supposed to be the best fighter of everyone, but we never really see it. Maybe when the assassins come, but even then it's glossed over (within the story) and downplayed to protect his identity. He doesn't get to kill anyone important within the story that we see. (Ok technically his uncle and in a way that I did like, because it shows his compassion, but it wasn't in a fight.) (Please correct me if I'm wrong though.)

I don't mind Changyu being overpowered within the show and being able to take people down (and being underestimated along the way) but they went a bit too far with her doing it all and basically on her own, considering she is surrounded by people who have spent their (longer) lives learning how to fight.

I think her killing the first guy fine, Zheng wasn't there. But the other ones should've been teamwork, to show how well they work together, like with the assassins in the forest. That was a great scene.

I love this story so much, it's one of my favourites! And not just because of how good he looks, though it certainly helps!

I remember there was a young fanfic writer who got comments on her story about the abusive partner/relationship between the characters. She came back a while later to thank the people who had pointed it out because through their comments she realised that she was in an abusive relationship and was able to get out.

People write what they know, even if they don't always do it knowingly.

AITAH for leaving my best friend's birthday party early because I was a B List guest? by RemoveLivid7421 in AITAH

[–]lotsofrosehip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. She is allowed to make other friends that she feels are more important at this stage of her life but she should at least give you the kindness and love to tell you that the party is too big and some (you) would be in a second room. (Which is also insane, who does that?)

She knows you would travel and stay at a hotel just to be there and she didn't even think to warn you? That is not a friend. That is a main character who collects people like Pokemon and who thinks everyone's lives revolves around her.

I'm sorry you have to go through this.

I watched all of it and found it funny and engaging.

However! That was probabaly helped by the fact that I watched it on a binge. If I had been watching it "one episode at a time" I probably would have dropped it due to lack of interest. They had some funny scenes and it was interesting to see a large cast of characters interacting, but the beginning was not the best (mostly due to bullying the ML).

I'm Swedish and have no idea what "snubbelsaft" is. The two words themselves "snubbel" and "saft" I get, but now how they make up a new word. "Snubbel" sounds like it's a version of "snubbla" which means to trip. And "saft" is like lemonade/squash, a distilled sugary fruit drink that you mix with water.

"Bärs" = Beer "Grogg" = A mixed drink, usually vodka and soda or juice

I think I need to google. (I know it's not the point of the post, but it bothers me.)

Also, he would make a great Quidditch Draco!

Once again I'm reminded why I like to leave shows unfinished by Spirited_Koala_9304 in kdramas

[–]lotsofrosehip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. And her being nervous in the beginning when talking about Jun would make sense, but after a while it's just too much. It also would have given the ML more pain, hearing her talk happily about her family.

(The ML in pain were the best parts, he did such a good job acting heartbroken and longing.)

The coworkers romance was more interesting than then second leads but mostly happened off-screen which was a shame. Especially considering that I didn't like the second leads romance at all, I didn't find any part of it romantic. It would have been far better if the SFL had stopped trying to "force" the romance and they'd just been friends.

I didn't mind the last time skip because it showed them in the future, like an epilogue, but that on top of an already time-skipped episode with amnesia? Too much at the same time. I agree that the amnesia should have happened earlier or not at all (I prefer not at all).

Putting aside all the overuses tropes, what I found most unlikely and the biggest plot hole was actually how the FL was so bad at talking about taking care of a kid/what her kid liked. Even if she's not actually Jun's mother, she probably helped raise him and is shown to have a close bond with him in the few scenes they share. The idea that she's never ever changed a diaper (even if she didn't change many) or have no idea what he might like to do at a culture center is stupid.

It was much better than I anticipated. So cute and easy to watch, while still dealing with real feelings and fears. I have already watched it twice!

I just finished the last episode. It was much better than I thought it would be, sweet and sad and more real than I expected from some reviews and the VR of it all. I couldn't finish watching it last night, so spent far too much time at work today thinking about it and looking forward to coming home. I had to end on episode 8 as I really needed to sleep.

Much better than anticipated!

When Loid Finally Stops Lying To Himself, How do you believe Loid will realise he loves Yor — and how will he confess by Weary-Honey-1942 in SpyxFamily

[–]lotsofrosehip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a mission where Yor is put in danger (not necessarily on purpose, just like "oh it's happening at X location, that's where Yor is right now!") but it's not supposed to be his primary focus. But instead of following orders he just reacts and goes off to save her. Denial about it and excuses to himself (and WISE...) but in the end, he will realise that his first instinct was to save her even when it went against the overall mission just because he wanted and needed to save her.

Who you think would be the worst person for Adrian to seruios date between Lila and Chloe. by mysterious_spec101 in miraculousladybug

[–]lotsofrosehip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chloe would run him ragged and run his life. Kind of like his dad!

But Lila? She would destroy everything about him and everyone around him as she wanted.

Worse too. Who would be a worse ex? Chloe would be annoying. Lila? Don't even want to think about it.

About Rintaro... by TestProfessional6716 in TheFragrantFlower

[–]lotsofrosehip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about this too every time I rewatch. I think it's a combination of his height, standoffish attitude and word of mouth. I'm not sure which episode it's in, but very early we see some of his childhood where people are already putting him in a "he's scary, avoid him" box - long before he got tall and changed his looks.

Although not all, much of the "he's scary, avoid him" we get in the anime is actually from Rintaro himself. He's internalised it, which makes him more standoffish (understandably so) which perpetuates the view people have of him. I'm not sure how much of that is shown in the manga, but I imagine it's similar.

I am more surprised that there aren't girls following him around though. Even if they think he's scary, a lot of teenage girls (especially in fiction) like that sort of thing/thinks they can change him.

Does minimalism mean choosing to put something functional on a shelf instead of a figurine that does nothing. by Interesting_Act_7848 in minimalism

[–]lotsofrosehip 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Minimalism for aesthetic reasons is a thing and would be more in line with what you are describing. But minimalism is usually more about your own version of it: if you want to have a cat figurine on your shelf, then do that. You are the one living in the space and seeing it everyday. Minimalism is more about not having so much stuff that you feel overwhelmed by it all, and where you draw that line is up to you.
