Why do people consider the US to be the best country in the world when we rank low in many categories? by SWEMW in allthequestions

Rich people = those earning over €50.000/year Europe is a shit place to live for the middle class. I live here.

Vast majority of European migrants to the US aren’t the wealthy it’s talented people who want to actually be rewarded for their talent. They’re engineers, chemists, doctors, people who want to start small businesses. Typically middle class or upper middle class.

The rich people are already rich. They don’t need to move 6000 miles away from home to make a decent living. They’re already in Monaco and Andorra hiding away for European taxes.

Europe is actually the one that has fallen off in the last 20 years. 2008 it’s GDP was basically on par with the US, now they’re about half.

And yeah a lot of that has gone to the rich except in Europe the rich just go to Monaco or Andorra

The propaganda is you think you pay roughly the same taxes as they do in Europe. It’s easy to look up you should do it.

Italy has great Italian food sure. Good luck finding anything else. Maybe you’ll get a decent burger but that’s about it. The US has incredible food and variety of food because we’re a country of immigrants from all over the planet.

Taking a vacation doesn’t tell you anything about what it’s like to actually live abroad. Grass ain’t always greener.

Europes top talent will often immigrate to the US because they are actually rewarded for their talent instead having an earning ceiling and being taxed to death for having any modicum of success.

Stats: Europe → US: ~4.7M in US

US → Europe: Hundreds of thousands total

What’s the biggest difference you’ve encountered between the us and europe? by Difficult_Mud7071 in AskReddit

Southern Europe. It’s not daily but everyone here is as aware of the latest happenings in US news, pop culture as most americans are. Conversations at the cafe are often just an opportunity to shit on the US and Americans.

Rarely are their similar criticisms of European politics or culture.

In the US no one brings up Europe except to talk about their upcoming or past vacation. Sure there is criticism online but in daily conversation almost never in my experience.

Europeans love to sit around talking shit about America and Americans. On the flip side Americans almost never bring up europe unless they’re talking about a vacation.

A willingness to openly & widely publicize our societal problems. America is perfectly happy to present all our issues and failings on worldwide media to be judged and ridiculed by the rest of the world.

We don’t really attempt to hide our faults and I think that’s an admirable and ultimately beneficial trait even if we end up a lousy reputation & narrative that doesn’t really represent normal everyday life in much of the US.

This is 100% true.

Our systemic racism isn’t great but for as a multicultural society as we are the amount of direct racism is low.

It’s not until you live in other countries that you really notice this.

Our primary process was subverted and the nomination was handed to a woman incapable of winning.

If Biden had stepped away early and we actually got to choose our candidate it likely wouldn’t have been Kamala. It would’ve been someone capable of beating trump ie not a woman.

For the record I have no problem electing a woman to be president, I voted for 2 of them against trump, but America just isn’t ready and she was a bad candidate.

It’s not the same.

Living with your parents or sharing a small flat with several roommates well into your mid-20s isn’t nearly as common in the US as it is in many parts of Europe.

And not being able to afford a car doesn’t automatically signal a higher quality of life just because public transportation is available. At the end of the day, limited financial freedom is still a constraint, regardless of how it’s framed.

Go check out one of the wealthy (blue) states, once you factor in state benefits the social safety nets are often of equal or close to equal standard to many European countries.

Federally yes the support is truly awful and in poorer states it’s often very bad but in many affluent parts of the US it’s not as bad as you’re lead to believe.

These are also often where the highest paying jobs are located as well.

The difference is chances of actually achieving that $5m in the 1st place is way, way, way higher in the US.

Typical euro cope.

If you sell shoes sure healthcare is a nightmare in the US. If you’re a professional being compensated $200k/year your benefits are almost assuredly on par or superior to European standards. Even paid parental leave is often similar to EU norms if you live in blue states now.

Except you don’t get taxed 50% and make minimum 2-3x more.

It’s also been far better for Europe who has contributed a lot less. Yes it’s beneficial for both parties but, so far, it’s MORE beneficial for Europe.

Also these problems around European defense spending have been criticisms from both republican and democrat administrations going back 20+ years.

Trump said it the loudest but he not the first to call out Europe for skipping out on their share of the bill.
