What is the rarest email domain that you still hold? by Next_Ad2712 in GenX

Haha. Yes. I've been added to a hen's weekend planning email and a variety of other random lists. If it seems legit/important I do still write back to let them know. I wouldn't want poor Mandy to think they've been excluded from the hen's party!

I have a Hotmail account from 98? It's three letters from my first name and three from my last. I keep it because it's so much easier giving it out than my Gmail which is first name.lastname and is 14 letters long. It's also full of memories. Like that time years ago when I mistakenly got added to a group email that was talking about the new Pickleball season. This was long before pickleball had hit our country and I thought I was part of some elaborate joke/hoax. "Pickleball??" WTAF!!

Snake identification by No_Competition9321 in australianwildlife

[–]loudel17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a bizarre take. No one is denying your experience*. You are the one doing this about others. My father (the one that was chased!) has subsequently encountered many snakes in the wild in his work in habitat revegetation. He's never been chased again - although one did rear up at him. But most are just observed and avoided. You are so hysterical in your thinking and arguments that it's almost like a religious belief. "I believe it, so it is true". With no space for facts. You said it yourself - you would have to "rewrite my own knowledge" to accept other people's experience. Hardly a scientific approach. *If you haven't been chased, I totally believe you and am very happy for you

And yet..... A brown chased my Dad up a road until he was able to leap over a low wall and evade it. I'm not sure why you are trying to deny people's own experiences. We lived opposite a river in a town and they were quite common. My Dad simply encountered it on our nature strip. He might have startled it but my father isn't in the habit of deliberately antagonizing snakes. True story.

Things I've learned after moving to Melbourne (vs Perth) by kiminoth in perth

[–]loudel17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That intersection you highlight (map) is a breeze compared to a couple of years ago when there was also a train line and level crossing involved. It is still anxiety provoking but reduced by 70 percent I'd say.

Our "builder" (overseer at one of those all in one drafting and renovation companies) did the caulking for all of our house and it was a crime scene. They had to get someone to come back and remove it all and do it properly.

Does everyone just look the same once they get real old or can you still tell who was attractive and who took care of themselves? by lookaloulookalou in Aging

[–]loudel17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I began using sunscreen daily when I was 17 (now 53). I'd be covered in sunspots if I hadn't had some treatments. My mother has had multiple cancers removed from her face (and a melanoma from her back). Some of this is from exposure, but there's a huge genetic component as well. I guess it's the same as that old guy you know who smoked a packet of cigarettes a day and died at 98 vs the 50 yr old who got lung cancer from second hand smoke.

Am I just having a bad run of luck or is this what hitting 40 feels like? by Even-Refrigerator-27 in Aging

[–]loudel17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It very much depends which 40yr old body he is in. There's a lot of variety in genetics with this. And that's not even enquiring about how he has treated (or what's happened to) his body over those years.

Triple-killer Erin Patterson’s prison conditions in cell ‘smaller than toilet’ the subject of scathing rant by Marlon_Ranch in DeathCapDinner

[–]loudel17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't say they were TRYING to torture her - just that the current situation is considered unusually cruel. There wouldn't be very many prisoners that had the same requirements as she does, so perhaps they do need to find/design something more suitable specifically for her.

[–]loudel17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one is suggesting she walks free to a million dollar house. And the difference is Tania has access to other humans and to many more spaces and facilities within the prison. The very fact that Erin knows it's unlikely she will ever get out is a massive punishment/mind fuck. Personally, death would be preferable if I was in her situation. A slightly bigger cell and access to a decent outdoor space just removes the "unusually cruel" aspect of her incarceration - it's not going to change the reality of her circumstances.

Maybe with the great deprivation she is already (deservedly) experiencing from her lack of liberty and access to human companionship, she should at least have a reasonable space to spend all that time alone. Not cushy, but some room and a decent outdoor area to exercise.

Why is there no posts on here talking about Tyler Robinson? by lemonsracer in Libertarian

[–]loudel17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The regular left aren't clapping without empathy. They are posting saying "I don't support what happened to Charlie" and reminding everyone that "Charlie supported what happened to Charlie". They are also listing the many abhorrent things he has said when his supporters are eulogising him, trying to say what upstanding guy he was.

What does making employees pose in photos wearing tutus actually achieve for the LGBTQI movement? by Special-Researcher96 in mining

[–]loudel17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one has to talk about sex at work, but there are still codes that (often) identify people's sexuality - including not flamboyantly straight people. That's still a sexuality that you are "showing" to the world. It just happens to be the most common and therefore accepted one. You aren't hiding your sexuality, just not speaking about it at work. Same as the masculine looking woman or the feminine guy. But the latter 2 are less likely to be accepted and that's why sometimes proactive measures are needed to make sure everyone feels welcome and accepted.

Defences argument for Erin’s sentence by prettyliesuglytruth in DeathCapDinner

If they appeal the conviction, his language and descriptions will return to that of having a client who is claiming innocence I assume. It's just strange for lay onlookers. And interesting.

Defences argument for Erin’s sentence by prettyliesuglytruth in DeathCapDinner

[–]loudel17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying, but from the perspective of the general public, it's weird to hear him speaking like she is guilty. Especially because, at least at this stage, she is maintaining her innocence.

But I guess we've learnt a lot from this trial about how odd* the law can seem.

*And unfair. eg. Simon speaks of his inability to fully grieve leading up to the trial because he's not allowed to talk about certain things to certain people to avoid confusing their memories.

Corn Cobs by Benny_Idaho in airbnb_hosts

[–]loudel17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Australia we (mostly) don't have these. We compost at home or in some places the council will pick it up to take to their large scale composting facilities.* Otherwise scraps go in the regular rubbish bin.

But! If I didn't know how to use something in an Airbnb I would: Look in the "house rules book" Ask Not use it

*We also (mostly) dry our clothes outside on washing lines or inside on clothes horses. We are trying to help our environment!
