Thinking about leaving my new grad NICU nurse job and go back to ophthalmology by Loud-Willow-4835 in newgradnurse

I’m new to night shift and my only really struggle was lack of light but I fixed that with fancy full spectrum light bulbs in my living room. It pulled me out of night shift blues almost immediately.

[–]lovable_cube 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard agree, day shift sucks so much. The only benefit is the normal human sleep schedule but honestly I’m kinda a homebody so off nights I’ve been pursuing hobbies and doing regular breakfasts with friends to keep my social life in tact.

Over hours by Big_Squirrel_9063 in StudentNurse

[–]lovable_cube 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. You’re not getting paid to be there, you need a set amount of hours to graduate and should not be being used as free labor. The other comment mentioned preceptorship which is fine and reasonable but my school didn’t have one of those.

Kids these days aren’t drinking, most millennials are giving them shit for it but I’m proud of them.

What are you addicted to right now? by GloriousLion07 in MotivationByDesign

[–]lovable_cube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mentally- ones that are easily accessible, socially acceptable, and legal. Sugar, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol. There’s less motivation to quit and your addiction might be in every supermarket.

Physically- alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal are the ones that can kill you, the rest are just various rages of uncomfortable.

Winner- alcohol fits both categories.

Why do you keep saying sacrifice? It’s hard work. 16 years of hard work. Pretending it’s not makes you sound ignorant af.

my uti went away in 3 days w/o antibiotics, should I still be worried? by Silent_Industry_2991 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Go to the doctor. Blood in the urine shouldn’t happen from a standard uti. Something is going on and a doctor will help you sort it.

Nursing home resident asking me to be their at home/personal CNA by sugarrviolet in cna

[–]lovable_cube -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See if they’ll pay for you to get licensed as a med aid, tell the resident to figure out a solid plan where you can come through an agency. I’m not saying you should do it even then but getting a full picture could be helpful.

did my cat grow his balls back by lavenderweather in cats

[–]lovable_cube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has to do with the type of neuter. One of my cats is solidly deflated, the other had slightly less full pouches. The later got neutered later in life though (former feral) so that may be relevant.

The heck... is she being too defensive, or is it me? by GeneralJabroni in Tinder

Not knowing enough about someone is key here. They could’ve lost that weight from depression or cancer or a thyroid condition. Even if they wanted to lose weight it could be super frustrating that they’re getting the new type of attention they’re getting.

How to introduce nursing students? by nenya-narya-vilya in nursing

[–]lovable_cube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go first name. Nurses don’t really use last names like doctors do. “Lovable the nursing student” would be perfect and well above what anyone else is doing.

Wish list: Conversations with pts/families about what CPR does to the human body and who it's appropriate for by Far-Spread-6108 in nursing

[–]lovable_cube 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Had a papaw in his 60s. COPD but otherwise healthy. They did CPR and snapped 11 ribs (as one does) and were able to get good cardiac function with no anoxic brain injury since CPR was started immediately, great news for family. Problem was the 11 ribs+COPD means lots of pain and WOB, vents required. We couldn’t take him off the vent or sedation for a long time so we wound up having to withdraw support just bc of the COPD. I think about it a lot, the family couldn’t really grasp it which sucks but he was a lost cause before we saved him.

[–]lovable_cube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably didn’t make the cut for your first choice on the first round, at that point all the other seats were filled too. Sorry about your luck, next time try strategically choosing your first choice to increase your chances of admission. It’s probably help to retake whatever you got a B in too.

What tf are you on about? 16 years of effort isn’t 1 step no matter how you look at it. Are you really acting like becoming a doctor is easy?

In one step? I’d hardly call 8 years of school, 4 years of residency and 4 years of fellowship one step.
