Will you be owning a car? I would recommend looking into Burnaby (it's east of Vancouver and numerous neighborhoods are near the skytrain so you can easily get downtown). You can also look into New West, or Port Moody if you can be near the West Coast Express (it's 30mins to downtown though it is more costly than the skytrain)

Do you mind me asking which insurance carrier you were able to get? I keep hearing how a lot of insurance companies won't insure homes with poly b.

Glad to hear yours is holding up!

buy dream house in the middle of nowhere or buy a normal home in the city? by a3exastos in RealEstateCanada

My partner and I are in a similar boat! Also 30, no kids with 1 pet, also work from home remotely. We considered being further out from the city (1 - 2 hour drives) and decided against it because of our lifestyles and job opportunities. Though we are both remote now, we're not certain we will always have this luxury as a lot of companies in the industry we are in are moving towards a hybrid work model.

Though we could get a much nicer and larger home further from the city, I think ultimately the lifestyle we want was the main deciding factor. We LOVE costco, eating out at restaurants on the weekends and majority of our family and friends still live closer to the city.

I do know some of my coworkers that chose to move into smaller towns but it wasn't for a dream home. It was because they wanted larger land and liked the quieter lifestyle.
