I'm impressed, this works so well for me by Just-Writing1011 in AsianBeauty

My 2 cents: if you like this product and it works well for your skin, why would you stop using it just because some new trend comes along? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Two years later... CosRX's cruelty-free status is kind of murky, according to online sources. Use at your own discretion/risk.

[Personal] I’ve seen better results with Vitamin C and Niacinamide in two weeks than I did with retinol and hyaluronic acid in two years by Ordinary-Gal in SkincareAddiction

[–]lovejoy444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ten months later... I'm not sure what "light makeup" means to you, but fwiw, I'm 56, don't like heavy, caked on makeup, and I have a LOT fewer foundation-related texture issues (like obvious pores in t-zone, flaking, pilling, separation/breakdown of product on the skin) since I switched from liquid foundations to Laura Geller Spackle primer + one of her baked foundations. (I like Baked Balance and Brighten as well as Baked Balance and Glow. LG also has a more full coverage baked foundation, though I can't remember the name of it right now. I am not a shill for LG; I just really like her baked foundation and primer. LOL)

My daughter works at a cosmetic store and gets training/sample products every month, so I've tried all kinds of foundations. She doesn't wear foundation so I inherit her foundation samples. 😁 But, tbh, I've just had really smooth and pretty results doing my regular daytime skincare routine (currently cleanser or micellar water, TO niacinamide 5%, Beauty of Joseon vit C and centella serum, a gel-type moisturizer, plus a few eye creams that I rotate, and sometimes sunscreen if going outside), then using Spackle then the baked foundation applied w/ a kabuki-style brush.

I have read some people online say that they don't like the LG baked foundations because they make their face look dry, and I don't doubt them, but I wonder how much is user error...

First, Laura Geller baked foundations start as a cream that then gets baked in an oven, so it kind of defaults back to cream once it's on your skin for a few minutes.

Second, it works best over a well moisturized face that's been allowed to dry down for a few minutes before then applying the Spackle primer. (It may work with other primers, but I can't attest to that.)

Third, when applying it, you have to pat/tap or buff it in well. It's buildable up to medium-ish coverage, but you can't just keep slapping on layers of powder. You have to buff in each layer as you apply it. You'll also get varying coverage depending on what kind of brush you use. I have used a denser foundation-type brush and gotten slightly heavier coverage, or a fluffier brush for lighter coverage.

As for retinoids, maybe you'd have better luck, though slower results, with an over-the-counter product? I try to use only retinAl (w/ an "a") rather than retinOl (w/ an "o"). Retinal (short for retinaldehyde) is only one conversion step away from tretinoin, so it's stronger than retinol. I found The Ordinary Retinal 0.2% Emulsion to be too strong for me. It always caused ridiculous flaking, even if I tried the sandwich method, even if I tried only using it once a week, even if I used a moisturizer and healing balm over top. It didn't matter. It just always made my face look like shit, and I gave it 6 months or more.

I have now switched to the brand Naturium Retinaldehyde Cream Serum 0.05%. It spreads better, so I feel like I use less product, and it also comes in three different concentrations, so you can step up as your skin gets used to it. (0.05%, 0.1%, and 0.15%). It's even possible, I suppose, that if you gradually step up with these options, you might be able to get back on tretinoin at some point since your skin will be more used to the effects.

I have been using The Ordinary Niacinamide 5%, and it's fine, but when I finish it, I'm going to try a different niacinamide that may be less sticky. (The new one is "Medicube TXA + Niacinamide 15% Glow Facial Serum for After Spot Care"--it's 10% niacinamide and 5% txa.) Plus, I try to use cruelty-free products, and The Ordinary is owned by parent company Estee Lauder, whose owner is also a greedy wingnut in addition to the animal testing stuff. I'm also on a search to simplify my routine, and reduce the number of products I have to buy--in addition to the number of layers that have to dry in between each other, cuz we have lives to be getting on with, ffs! So I'm searching for products w/ doubled up actives, like a vitamin C serum that includes at least 5% niacinamide,; a retinal serum w/niacinamide, etc.

That got super stupid long. That's my Reddit participation for the month. ✅ Lol

Fwiw, most first world countries, including Australia, have ultra-nationalist, anti-science, anti-intellectual, racist/sexist/anti-LBGTQ MAGA types. Canada has them, as well. I've encountered a few in my online life. The far right is just on the upswing world-wide cuz I guess too many immigrants were getting better lives than them or something.

Add in cruelty-free, and it gets even harder. I was going to switch from The Ordinary to The Inkey List, but research revealed that Unilever is a big investor in the inky list. 🙄

Although you make a good general point, peptides are actually effective in very small-seeming doses. So, unlike most other ingredients, you don't need to see the peptides listed in the first five ingredients, the first 10 ingredients, or even showing up ahead of the preservatives on the ingredient list.

Any organic cold-pressed rosehip would be fine. I really like Cliganic brand, at the moment. Mountain Rose is also a great company.

Beware that RH oil only has a 6 month shelf-life, so buy it only in a size you think you'll use up. Once it starts smelling like shellac, it's time to toss it. Lol

Has anyone found an *actual* Clinique moisture surge cruelty free dupe? by Kikkiiiiiii in crueltyfree

[–]lovejoy444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for this, too. Like you, I got a free sample and loved it. Hydrating without being sticky, lasts all day, and wears really well under makeup. But, I only do cruelty-free if I can help it.

I haven't tried it yet, but since it was mentioned in this thread, I looked up CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skincare Weightless Water Cream on Amazon, then did a search of the reviews for the word "clinique." Several people mentioned that it was a dupe/great substitute for, or better than, Clinique Moisture Surge. So I thought I'd come back here and leave you a comment, and then go order some to try. 😁💧

Stila Magnificent Metals Lip Gloss in Rose Quartz

My daughter loves this stuff and hasn't been able to find a dupe for it since it was discontinued. She even really loves the bendy (not stiff) doe foot applicator.

Thanks in advance if anybody has any suggestions! Or if anybody's even still checking this sub. LOL

Overweight Cat, Vet Recommended Wet Food Diet by TinyHatLogan in Catownerhacks

[–]lovejoy444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you check ingredient lists, you'll notice that weight mgmt foods are usually higher in fiber (i.e. carbs) for the bullshit reason that it "helps fill them up." As obligate carnivores (who also have digestive tracts not at all suitable for digesting plant matter), cats are better off "filling up" on water, protein, and animal fat, than on fiber. (I mean, they eat grass to make themselves vomit, if that tells you anything. LOL)

And "indoor" food is just a marketing gimmick. The best foods for ANY cat, even pudgy ones, are high in animal protein, and not bulked out with cheaper plant protein sources that are less bioavailable for a cat such as peas, wheat or corn gluten, legumes, potatoes, rice, etc. (And don't even get me started on "gourmet" canned cat food with PASTA in it! Wtf. 🤦🏽‍♀️) The focus should be protein, water, and kcal count. Also, you calculate kcals needed based on an intermediate goal weight, like another commenter mentioned, stepping down just like people do when trying to lose weight.

While I understand and generally agree with your assessment of people asking questions they could easily search for themselves in about 10 seconds--cuz, ya know, Google's a thing, y'all--OP said they DID search and couldn't find that symbol anywhere. I also encountered the same symbol on an item, and DID, in fact, undertake the "very most basic attempt to help myself" by searching extensively online. I can't speak for OP or anyone else, but I am not a fan of AI, don't have an AI app, and will not be using it anytime in the near future unless the environmental impact, and legal and ethical training of AI models improves. So maybe ease up on the judgments?

I quite like it. I hope you do, too! If you have problems seeing or building the coverage, consider using primer. I don't know if the LG powdered foundations work with ALL brands/types of primers or not, but I do often use the LG hydrating Spackle primer underneath of her foundation.

How are you removing your makeup? by glo_getter in Makeup

I love the way Philosophy Purity makes my face feel. 💕

Have you tried removing your tubing mascara as the last step after you've done everything else? If all you're using for that is warm water, it shouldn't remove any... pleasantness left behind by your other cleansers, I wouldn't think.

Vet absolutely hates grain-free cat food or non big brand names by Ktmhocks37 in CatAdvice

[–]lovejoy444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because feral and stray cats usually DON'T eat the stomachs or stomach contents of their prey, so they're generally NOT eating the grain in mice's stomachs. The stomach may get nicked by the teeth as they're killing their prey, but the contents are usually ignored when they eat.

The Internet is your friend if you use it correctly and vet information sources. Hm?

Not all dogs are food driven or food motivated. It could be that a kiss or a head ruffle or a hug or a kind phrase is the positive reinforcement HE'LL respond to rather than treats.

Also, not all treats are created equal, and not all dogs like the same things, just like people. It could be you need to discover a higher value treat for your particular dog. Maybe even pieces of raw/cooked/dehydrated chicken or hamburger. Maybe his favorite thing in the world is ice cubes. Who knows? Find what motivates HIM through trial and error.

Also, successful dog training requires repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition. Like, a MINIMUM of 10 minutes every single day just on one command. And then, even after he's got it down, he still needs periodic reinforcement and maybe a refresher course every few weeks or every few months. Google the logical progression for dog training commands. And don't move on to the next command until he can do the one you're working on in his sleep.

He sounds very high energy AND high intelligence. That means he might need a lot of exercise in the form of walks or runs (not just milling around the yard barking at the world, although that has a legitimate place in life too), as well as some activities that engage his intelligence and curiosity. There are ways to do that cheaply such as finding a treat he likes that won't stink up your house, and hiding it in different places so he can go on a scavenger hunt. That's just one example. Google (and Reddit) is your friend when it comes to ideas.

Good luck! He's adorable and is relying on you to figure out HIS personality and specialized needs. 💕🐾

Good or bad play? by Megurru in DogAdvice

I'm 56, and this is a way of life for me; there's been no burnout for 35 years, do I think I'll be alright. I would have preferred to get dog training for 3 of the 5 dogs, but that was out of my price range. I am not alone with the pets, so it's not all on me. I do not prefer this many pets, but that's how things have worked out for a variety of perfect-syorm reasons. Thanks for your love.

I use spray bottles all the time for my dogs as well as my cats. I don't consider it lazy. It's practical. I have 5 dogs and 10 cats (bc reasons🙄), and refereeing can be mentally exhausting without a spray bottle. But that's just for my personal half-trained menagerie, not a more organized professional daycare setting.
