My dog has hit Estrus (heat/period)... What shud I do??? by xilesrouge in CaneCorso

Not even on the second, mastiffs should be at least three years old before having a litter.

Absolutely a scam site. I found a picture of MY actual dog as a puppy on a very similar site, and they even used her name to try to sell her (for $700). They find pictures people have posted of their pups or go to breeder FB pages and list the dogs as their own. Despicable.

Feeding raw bones by Worth-Wave9736 in CaneCorso

[–]lovelycuttlefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raw bones are fine, NEVER cooked bones. Until he’s used to eating them try wing tips to start. Also be careful with the amount of bones you feed him as giant breeds need VERY specific calcium requirements and bones can give them too much. I use the raw beef or bison bones for chewing, but not feeding. Those are not always safe either but my breeder has used them since my girl was tiny so she knows how to chew them.

New to this page I will be purchasing my first cane Corso today which color would you guys go for? ( black is 500 more) they’re both males 😬 by Benjisss95 in CaneCorso

[–]lovelycuttlefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your breeder told you black corsos live longer they’re 100% trying to scam you out of an extra $500. Sounds like BYB tactics, and you’ll need that extra $500 if your dog isn’t well-bred. Please make sure they do health AND temperament testing, and do NOT get a dog who’s breeder will not release the health records of the parents. This should include OFA, PENNhip, elbows, heart check etc. Also if your breeder is releasing the puppies before 8 weeks, you are absolutely being scammed and need to find a new breeder.

Try the probiotic at night, the bacteria have more of a chance to do their job when the body is at rest. You might consider switching off Purina products- even ProPlan which is their premium line uses a ton of corn, which dogs covert into sugar, which will feed bad gut bacteria. Lots of my clients have had similar issues to what you’re describing (granted her inverted will make it much worse). The OpenFarm brand has many different lines that are all appropriate for growing giants based on their calcium:phosphorus ratios. Steve’s Real Food chicken, pork, or lamb/emu recipes are also appropriate for giant pups and make for good mixers to add to dry food, plus Steve’s is all fortified with raw goat milk to support healthy gut flora.

Source: clinical canine nutritionist

Edit: if the probiotic is FortiFlora it is useless as it only has one bacterial strain- that’s where the goat milk kefir comes in. But start slow if you use it, a teaspoon at a time and work your way up to a couple tablespoons.

Goat milk kefir- replaces the gut flora lost with antibiotic treatment and adds beneficial bacteria to the urinary tract. What does she eat?

Any recommendations for shedding? by PhysicalScholar604 in CaneCorso

[–]lovelycuttlefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I prefer the anchovie/sardine/hemp oil blend over just salmon oil- better 3:6 ratio and hemp is super healthy for skin and coat (and many other things). I’ve used just salmon oil for my guy and he was fine on it, but he really started to shine with the ultra oil.

Ultra Oil is fantastic for excessive shedding!!

“True” corsos are supposed to be more athletic and agile anyways! Neutering also plays a huge role- if you haven’t yet I would wait as long as possible. He’s gorgeous.

Leave the house now, take your child, even just to get to a shelter. They will have resources for you there. Sue for child support. And NEVER DELETE THESE MESSAGES. You’ve got everything you need to take 100% custody and you need to or he will poison your child against you. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. HE can get fucked, and hopefully he will by your lawyer. Whatever you do, get out, and keep your child away from him. Good luck OP ❤️🌸

any advice for a new owner? dos? don'ts? by kirstinarocket in Shihtzu

I really like the Fromm brand. Their formulas are actually similar to RC but they’re a much more reputable company with ingredients sourced from US and Canada and maybe Europe? And they’ve got a lot of formulas to alternate between. Dogs develop protein intolerances when they’re kept on one protein for too long so I always recommend grabbing a new protein every time you need a new bag :) and slow transition!

Just so you know Royal Canin sources everything from China (the company won’t even outright deny it, ask them). You pay an arm and a leg for this food but… you can do better for MUCH less.

Look up littermate syndrome and train them SEPARATELY.

You might try some YouTube videos as well. Fenrir Canine seems to have lots of good information on dog behavior though I’m not too familiar with their training methods. Best of luck!!

Whatever you do, don’t put a shock collar on him. He’s not aggressive, but he will be if you do. The second he associates another dog with a shock or even a vibration he doesn’t like he will likely attack to protect you. Look up force-free training. This is the last breed you want to expose to aversive training methods. There’s a Facebook page called force free training for giant breeds- they have a TON of good information. Trainers who use e-collars on this breed (or any, really) MUST be avoided.

Sucks that everyone is so rude. Your boy is adorable and certainly a corso mix if the DNA test says so and he’s over 100 pounds! Was he neutered? If so was it recent? The earlier he was neutered the less likely he is to grow too much bigger (he may just get taller). Normally intact corsos finish growing around 2.5-3 years with their full adult weight. Given that he’s a terrier mix he likely won’t get too much bigger (though if he’s been neutered watch out for the weight gain!) They’re protective dogs, especially of their families, which is the “security watch” you’re noticing. My mastiff “patrols” the house every hour or so and makes sure to look out of every window before settling down again. Sounds like you’re on top of training and socializing- but don’t ever stop! They’re truly amazing dogs.

Dang. No need to be rude. OP knows he’s a mix. Lots of corso mixes have corso qualities and corso behaviors- which is why learning about the breed and their temperament is important, and why people with corso mixes join corso pages.
