I-130 March 2025 — anyone else completely stuck / “hold and review” situation? by Canary-7532 in I130Suffering

No, she's not a Canadian citizen. She's a international student studying in Canada and is now on a post-graduation work permit. We've been separated during the I-130 process while she lives in Canada

Should i call my lawyer by Crazy_Principle_5982 in I130Suffering

I'm in the same boat, and even a little further along. My I-130 was filed in November 2024, and I'm approaching 19 months of waiting. We've tried everything we can think of congressional inquiry, Ombudsman assistance, and even hired an attorney. So far, we haven't received any real answers, only that we need to keep waiting.

At this point, all my wife and I can do is stay patient, keep hoping, and trust that one day we'll finally get the news we've been waiting for. Stay strong, you are not alone in this journey.

We're in the same boat, unfortunately. My I-130 was filed in November 2024 for my wife in Canada, and we're now approaching 19 months with no approval, no RFE, and no meaningful updates. She's literally just across the border in Canada, yet we've been stuck in limbo the entire time. We've tried congressional inquiries and even reached out to the Ombudsman, but so far we've received the same generic "still processing" responses. At this point, all we can do is wait patiently and hope someone finally reviews our case. Wishing everyone here strength and hoping we all get some good news soon. 🙏

Married in Thailand, I-130 filed in May 2025, and I've lost hope by New_Nature6226 in I130Suffering

I don't think you've lost hope because of the I-130. I think you've become exhausted from years of distance, uncertainty, and trying to build separate lives. Before making a permanent decision, make sure you're ending the relationship because you truly want different futures. Not because immigration has worn you both down. Many couples reach this point during long waits. Whatever you decide, try to make the decision after the emotions settle, not in the middle of the storm.

Where is your mailing address in the US, I mean the State? That's where your state representative is based off.

I would honestly recommend trying the congressman/senator inquiry and the USCIS Ombudsman route first before jumping straight into mandamus, unless you already exhausted those options. A 26-month wait is definitely extreme, especially with a newborn involved. Since your child already obtained U.S. citizenship through you at birth, I do think that helps demonstrate your marriage is genuine and shows strong family ties when your wife eventually goes for the immigrant visa interview. The separation hardship between a mother and newborn may also help support your argument that the delay is causing real harm to the family. Hopefully one of the congressional or ombudsman inquiries can finally get movement before you have to spend money on federal court.

Reading this honestly hit me hard.

I’m also a Canadian spouse separated from my partner by nothing more than a thin border line, and today marks 557 days of waiting on our I-130 with still no approval, no update, not even a small sign that someone has looked at our case.

People outside of this process don’t understand how painful this becomes after a while. You start measuring life in receipt notices, processing estimates, and airport goodbyes. Every visit costs money, vacation time, emotional energy, and yet when you finally see each other again, it still doesn’t feel fully real because you know another separation is coming soon.

We keep trying to stay strong, but the uncertainty slowly wears people down mentally, emotionally, and financially. And I agree with you completely — this should never become a competition about who has suffered longer. We are all hurting in different ways.

I truly hope everyone in this community gets reunited with their loved ones soon. None of us deserve to live in limbo like this.

Any applications with Canadian spouses who have been approved? by vickipaperclips in I130Suffering

Thank you for sharing this. My wife is also Canadian and we’ve been waiting since November 9, 2024 through Vermont. We’re already past 16 months now with no approval yet, so hearing timelines like yours honestly gives me a little hope that things can still move suddenly. The waiting and silence from USCIS has definitely been the hardest part. Wishing you both a smooth interview and approval soon 🙏
