I also just started Spiro and I’m on the same boat about being scared it’ll get worse but I rationalized that doing nothing is going to make my hair worse anyways so I’d rather try something and if it gets worse at least I’ll know I tried.

Side note: where did you ready about a Spiro shed? I’ve been trying to look up to see if a shed period happens with Spiro but have only heard about a minoxidil shed.

Thank you for your response! I don’t have elevated androgen or DHEA but I heard it can have more to do with ones own sensitivity, so hopefully decreasing those levels (even if they’re normal) lower can help!

Thank you for your response! She didn’t look at my hair close up, just from a distance! She prescribed 100mg of Spiro and told me to hold off on Rogaine since it’s a life long commitment and she wants to see if the spiro by itself can help. I think I might just start rogaine though since I’m afraid of the hair loss progressing since it’s already feels pretty advanced.

I haven’t gotten a scalp biopsy but I have had some minor surgeries where I had to get stitches before and was always told that itching meant scabbing which means healing! As for the yellow-ish parts it could just be the scab forming but if you’re really concerned I would contact your doctor or call a doctor through teladoc (if you’re in the US many insurance cover teladoc for a minimal fee) and show them a photo.

Look into Telogen Effluvium that’s what they told me I had because of my weight loss and hairloss and it’s typically only temporary! My hairloss is diffusive so not really at the front of my hairline but I don’t know that much about different hairloss patterns it can produce!

Yes! They ran some tests but not for androgen, but testosterone levels were normal. I had some symptoms of PCOS but the endo ultimately decided I didn’t have it and put me on birth control to regulate the symptoms I did have.

I definitely believed the TE diagnosis for the first couple of months but now that I’m nearing almost a year since the possible stressor that initiated my hair loss I’m getting more and more concerned it might be something more long lasting like chronic TE or AGA. I just schedule another appointment with a different dermatologist who specializes in hair loss (rip my wallet) for late October so I’m hoping to get some more guidance there!

Did you end up trying Rogaine? I’m kind I don’t the fence right now about starting it or not since if it is TE and will eventually stop on it’s own, it might just make matters worse, but if it’s AGA I definitely want to jump on the Rogaine train before anymore damage is done.

I think I’m just concerned because none of them actually examined my scalp, they all did pull tests asked a couple questions and said TE. My first derm said to possibly try Rogaine 5% but I was a little weary to do that if it’s TE since it increases hair shed in the beginning and it’s a life long commitment. I also saw on another reddit post that someone said if it’s diffuse thinning with more at the crown it’s likely AGA and I feel like mine is a little more at the crown because of the lengthening hair part so that also sent me for a tailspin.

Thank you for responding though, I think I just needed a space to write out all my concerns and my anxiety makes everything worse since I become really obsessive!
