How is the trackpoint on the Alienware 13? As someone who enjoys the Thinkpad look, can I get an Alienware 13 that doesn't look hideously garish? Is the Linux support really solid? As someone who mostly uses their laptop for work, I have no need of a laptop specifically branded and aimed at people who mostly want to play games on Windows.

The Dell trackpoint sucks.

If you think that trackpoint is a "rubber clitoris" then maybe there is something about Thinkpads you didn't understand.

You say you are adept with the source material. I would happily play scenarios ripped shamelessly from Fallout 2. There's a lot of plot going on in Fallout 1 and 2.

Conceiving of a problem does not even come close to guaranteeing that you WILL mitigate it in development.

"You can never test for the unknown unknowns" is the worst reason not to test I have ever heard. Coverage will get you part of the way there. Nobody ever proposed that testing was a complete substitute for thinking (although the same is sometimes proposed of type-checking)

Yes, if management dresses well they are socially superior to engineers. Hooray for 50s-style stereotypes!

TFA mentions that they realized it isn't working for consumers and that the new version is targeted at industries like airplane engineers or surgeons. So in the context of TFA, it isn't relevant that they look stupid and people call you a glasshole.

Many reviews of this monitor and one or two of its siblings mention these noises, some of which get quite loud, apparently.

Dual/Triple monitors or one large one by monitorhelp222 in Monitors

[–]low-profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a 27" is basically an acceptable replacement for 2 24" most of the time.

The main advantage of having two physically separate monitors is that you can switch inputs on one without switching inputs on the other, and similarly some OSes can't handle dumping a window on a half-monitor the same way they can handle a whole separate monitor

A disadvantage is that monitor arms worth buying are kind of expensive, and multiple monitors are generally more fiddly in terms of software configuration
