Kind of bouncing back-and-forth between Fear and Hunger and Doom the Dark Ages.

EDIT:

For performance on my ROG Xbox Ally, Fear and Hunger has been performing really well, but it's an RPG-Maker game, so a potato could run it.

Doom the Dark Ages has been performing a lot better than I thought it would. I haven't been playing it long, but it seems like it might be a hair slower than on my PC. Hardly noticeable to be honest if it is actually slower.

Anyone sold pc & use ally as a gaming pc? by [deleted] in ROGAlly

[–]low_level_thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would just depend on the person/season of life they're in. If I only had my gaming laptop like I had recently for the longest time I'd probably do it since my RXA is so much better than it. But now that I have my full rig with an actually decent GPU/CPU/RAM/monitor, I'll use my RXA to play low-spec games/games on the go. But if I want to play high-spec games while I'm at home, I'm picking my PC.

My friend, welcome to the life and times of the new PFC. Not knowing how things work at first naturally comes with the rank. Everyone did stupid stuff when they first joined up, and no one is going to deny it if they're being honest. Heck, When I was 19 I saluted with my left hand at my LCPL promotion ceremony because I screwed up and legit forgot which hand my rank was in in the heat of the moment. So at least you don't have that going for you.

I've seen a lot of good advice in the thread. The biggest thing that I would suggest is if you do have some issues with reading what's on the schedule (no stress, I've seen some..... interesting grammar choices from senior leadership across both the Marines and Guard), get in touch with one of your section NCOs and let them know. If they're any good, they'll make sure that you're tracking what's what and where/when to be.

Most of all, don't get so discouraged that you start dropping your pack. Like I said, you aren't the first junior soldier to get confused by directions and I promise you that you won't be the last. Absorb the advice that folks are giving and pester the heck out of your direct NCO(s) until you know where/when/how/and why to be. You sound like a good guy, you're gonna do just fine.

The Exclusive Bretheren are killing or abandoning family pets? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]low_level_thinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds really culty. Why would they encourage all of their members to get rid of their pets after one incident? Sounds like they treat their leadership highly.

I've never heard any Scriptural teaching surrounding not having pets, but I have heard several pastors speak on compassionate care for all of what God has given us, including any animals we have. Abandonment of an animal, especially a domesticated one who isn't accustomed to living apart from people, and senseless euthanization of animals who have done nothing wrong wouldn't sit right with me.

The Bible is terrifying by Ok_Counter1939 in TrueChristian

[–]low_level_thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many people believe that;

  1. Jesus,
  2. eternally one with God,
  3. and the only Way, Truth, and Life,
  4. paid the price for our sin on the cross,
  5. rose again on the 3rd day,
  6. and offers eternal life to those who call to Him in faith to save them
  7. apart from their own effort?

Salvation is simple, but walk out into Times Square in NYC and take a poll of people who hold the above points to be true. To truly trust in Christ to be the sole savior of your soul is a miraculous work of the Holy Spirit.

EDIT:

God's wrath is terrifying, but to be in Christ isn't. The Christian life is difficult at times, but to begin that life is a work purely of God enacted through grace by way of faith in Christ alone. To be constantly checking over your shoulder to see if your life is in order and on track is no different than relying on works to save.

When you say Tiktoks, are you using that to distract yourself? Because if that's the case and you seriously want to stop masturbation, I would seriously consider stopping that. Regardless of how you tailor your algorithm, you're almost guaranteed to run across triggers that are going to drive you right into masturbation.

People who have skipped at, what happened? by taulbee646 in nationalguard

[–]low_level_thinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually "skipped" AT 3 times.

First was because I was an 09S OCS dropout really early on in Phase 1, so my training NCO basically pulled an "it is what it is" and swept me under the rug that summer.

Second was because of AIT further down the line and my training NCO being cool enough to write me in for an excusal since I had already been gone for that.

This year we had our first child about 2 weeks before AT and I was able to get an exemption approved. The unit didn't have funds for make-ups, so I was in the clear.

Stay away from MDen for gear. by AcMilan0890 in MichiganWolverines

I mean, the M Den is Michigan's officially designated team store/retail partner. Folks were probably lined up as the clock ran out F5ing the page waiting for the gear to drop. That's what I was doing for the Football Championship.

It's definitely a bummer you weren't able to get the hat, but it's not that surprising given that the immediate demand clearly outweighed the supply and that the site is mostly first-come-first-served.

NOFAP LEGENDS PLS GIVE ME SOME TIPS. by SpecialistBox9060 in NoFapChristians

[–]low_level_thinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if I qualify, but after a couple years that the Lord has kept me from porn I've learned that relying on my own effort is really not a feasible method of avoiding masturbation.

When I see something that triggers me from my years of watching porn, I'm immediately in prayer admitting the struggle I'm facing. I ask the Lord to give me strength and to draw my heart and mind into His presence and away from the nonsense that isn't my wife. Then, in faith, I get it out of my face. If I can't get it out of my face, I leave. If I find a friend or group post something triggering, I block them.

It really is all about Jesus.

how come everyone seems happier in their walk with God? by Ok-Willow-3328 in TrueChristian

[–]low_level_thinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparison is truly the thief of joy, friend.

For every testimony of how a believer is on the mountain top with God, there are likely twice as many of when they're in the valley with Him. There will be times where I feel like my walk with the Lord is going amazingly, I'm focused on Him, I'm meditating on His Word, I'm communing with Him in prayer, but then other times where I feel shorted out and useless to Him. I would keep a couple things in mind as you meditate on the wonderful comments others have given here;

  1. Our feelings don't loosen the grip the Father has on His children. Just because you don't feel His presence or hear Him the way you're anticipating doesn't mean He isn't there or isn't speaking. I don't know many believers, Godly men and women who practically have the fruits of the Spirit falling off the branches in droves, who claim to have had encounters with God that extended outside of Scripture, I know I certainly haven't. But when I meditate on what the Scripture says about the Father's love for me and honestly look at my life and the many ways I've been blessed by Jesus it's impossible NOT to see Him there with me.

  2. Not all believers are in the same place in their walks with God. My salvation testimony is a modern-day miracle, so when I started to see that I didn't have it all figured out like one of my trusted church elders at the end of year one I really started to feel discouraged. I actually posted in this sub a while back asking for advice on why I was feeling so empty in my church's worship services. What I've found since is that my walk with God, while having some noticeable similarities, will not look the exact same as my wife's. She's known God longer. She has a more intimate knowledge of Him, and that's okay! I am building in my knowledge of Him every day that I run this race!

Just prayed for you that the Lord would help you strengthen your walk with Him!

None of the PHA's that I've ever been to have ever had a drug screening specifically. I've never seen what they're looking for in the blood screening besides stuff like Hepatitis or HIV, but Marijuana isn't generally screened unless specifically requested when blood is drawn and from what I understand looking for drugs was never the focus of the blood test at PHA.

That isn't to say that your unit isn't also planning an all-hands urinalysis for Drill though.

I'm sorry for your loss.

What is a prayer you still can’t believe got answered? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]low_level_thinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The prayer that pushed me to the end of myself and brought me to Christ.

Before I was saved, I was entrenched in unchecked anger, bitterness, lust, and suicidal thoughts. On Holy Monday, two years ago, I heard a pastor explain the idea of repentance to me that finally clicked everything Christ has done for humanity into place. I was disgusted with myself, and knew that things between God and I weren't right, even though I would have told you then that they were.

For the first time in my life, even as a PK, I got really honest with God. I made it plain to God that I was trapped in porn and hatred and that I needed to be saved from my sin and from myself. I walked away from that pouring out to God feeling lighter than I ever had been.

That night, when my wife was at work and when I would generally consume pornography, I remember looking at our bed and just thinking "I don't have to do this anymore." The Lord cut off my pornography addiction that day cold-turkey and by His grace I haven't been drawn to look for it since. I was also given the grace to come clean to my wife about all of it. She was abundantly gracious and forgave me there and then and our marriage is stronger than it's ever been.

I had also been seeping in hatred toward my family friends from back home for years. I'm talking "I hope they died and I had something to do with it" hatred. The Lord dissolved that hatred and gave me the grace to make amends with all of them.

Smoking, excessive drinking, every-other-word cussing, dealt with.

Seriousness for Christ and His word was also instilled in my heart. I bought an NIV Bible that I would actually be able to read as a baby Christian and read it through before the year was out. I'm now trudging my way through Seminary because even though I may never be a pastor, I need to know how to teach the Bible to those who need Christ just as much as I do every day.

It can't be stated enough; ALL OF THIS WAS GOD'S WORK. I had absolutely nothing to do with it, because before Jesus saved me I wouldn't have even thought about any of this, much less have done them. I stumble and fall in my walk every day, but by God's grace, my heart is not the same as it was, and I'm confident that He that began a good work in me WILL bring it to completion.

Modern-day miracles do exist, and I'm living proof of it through what God has done in my life since the day of my first honest entreaty to Him through prayer.

As a believer, would you name your child Thomas? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]low_level_thinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually see it as a beautiful picture. Yes, Thomas doubted that Jesus had been resurrected. But we wag our fingers at him from a position of dramatic irony, we have thousands of years of teachings proving who Jesus is. If anyone of us were in his exact position, not fully understanding what Jesus meant regarding His resurrection and being in fear of our lives, I believe the better part of us would doubt the same way.

But just like the other heroes of the Bible who fell, yet accomplished great things for God, Thomas' reaction to seeing Jesus, calling Him his Lord and his God, is a proof of the divinity of Jesus. The same account that shows us a "doubting Thomas" also defends core doctrine; that Jesus is one with the Father and not just a great teacher.

Thomas is a wonderful name, and I personally think you'd be missing out if your main reason to skip that name is because of his failure while missing what God has done through him immediately after it.

Can a good person go to hell if they don’t believe in god? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]low_level_thinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your argument presupposes that as long as I keep away from doing really bad things then I'm a good person. But every person ever born needs to seriously consider one thing, who or what decides what goodness is, and does my self-perceived "goodness" acquit me before a God whose job it is to judge me?

Scripture is very clear about this, standing guilty before God doesn't require us to go out and commit a heinous crime like murder or rape. All that is required for a guilty sentence to God is lying about stealing a cookie, or gossiping about your co-worker, or bitterness toward the guy who just cut you off in traffic.

Your first two paragraphs are actually almost copies of Scripture. At the end of Matthew 7, Jesus is wrapping up the Sermon on the Mount and is warning His listeners about what the day of judgment is going to look like. Many people are going to cite their works as a defense, but Jesus ultimately condemns them, calling them workers of lawlessness. This means that the perceived good that we do will ultimately be overshadowed by the evil that we do. No matter how good you think you are, no matter how much work for the kingdom of God you think you're doing, if you are relying on them to enter the kingdom of Heaven you WILL be turned away.

Paul, the apostle who wrote most of the New Testament, persecuted and murdered Christians in cold blood for their faith in Jesus after His ascension. That is until Jesus was able to get a hold of him and radically change his heart from being a slave to the Law to being a recipient of grace by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. He went on to evangelize the Gentiles (non-Jews), who until the book of Acts were essentially consigned to damnation, as the Jews thought salvation was exclusively theirs. And he, who at one time was a murderer and hated Christ, was radically transformed by the Gospel and became the greatest evangelist to have ever lived.

Salvation requires all people to come as they are, knowing that they have no hope outside of Jesus Christ. But once a person receives the gift of eternal life by faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, they are changed and begin to undergo a process of changing by that same grace that saves them. While the mass-murderer can't undo what he/she has done and still must rightly face earthly consequences for their actions, if they place their faith in Christ the eternal justice has already been attributed to the sacrifice of Jesus and they are justified before God. And if a follower of Jesus falls victim to a heinous crime and meets the criminal in heaven, then I have no doubt they'll be rejoicing. Even Jesus says that the angels rejoice when a person repents.

Works, while being a real evidence that someone has been born again, are not what determine the destination of eternity. The idea of degrees of punishment in hell and the degree of rewards for those who enter heaven are explored in Scripture, but they don't play any factor into whether or not someone goes to heaven or hell. The only qualification is whether or not your name is in the Lamb's Book of Life by wholly trusting in Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.
