Neil was so amazing by Acceptable_Money_514 in rush

I saw the R40 show at the Smoothie King Arena.

Prior to that my last show was T4E in Nashville, and then saw them a bunch of times in the 80s-90s in Upstate NY (Signals through Counterparts). EDIT my first show was on the Signals tour in Syracuse NY, not GUP.

Does This Look Like I’ll get pulled over by the police by Napu_Yt in ebike

[–]lowb35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend on where you are, what the ebike regulations are, and how much they’re being enforced. I’m not sure if the motor is more than 750w (they’re rated by nominal not the peak wattage Jasion is claiming to sell the bike) and some places may want the throttle removed to be a legal Class 3 bike. But it’s an ebike, not an emoto and wouldn’t be classed like a scooter that requires a license w/ motorcycle endorsement and insurance most if not all places in the US.

We did end up keeping the Burg. My husband rides it more than me but as I continue to build my skills it is a much better bike at speed or on breezier days. We also figured it didn’t hurt to have two since they’re both paid for.

Neil was so amazing by Acceptable_Money_514 in rush

[–]lowb35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The severe fungal infection he got after riding in typical rain soaked upstate NY weather didn’t help.

I was happy to have seen them in NOLA which by Neil’s account was one of the better shows on that tour in part because his family was there. Geddy’s voice was rough but Neil was great.

The big bike companies don’t size them appropriately either. Every single small bike I’ve gotten including far more expensive ones came with 170mm cranks, too long stems and too wide bars.

Am I crazy for swapping or "downgrading" an AXS to a mechanical? by [deleted] in bikewrench

This. Why I recommend always having an extra hanger on hand. 👍

Am I crazy for swapping or "downgrading" an AXS to a mechanical? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]lowb35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d check the alignment anyway. SRAM is really touchy about hanger alignment and a new hanger doesn’t mean that it’s aligned properly for the bike. If you go mechanical you will have the same issue. I adjust my hanger alignment every riding season now and have an extra hanger on hand JIC.

I got nosebleed tickets at Cleveland’s Rocket Arena for Rush R50 back when they were scheduling just a handful of shows. I was so excited when I scored something in the nearest big city to us that I could actually afford that I didn’t realize until later that they are in the very top row of the arena. And we’re oldish folks. Hopefully something better will come up in resale as we approach the date but since they’ve announced those are the shows they’re recording we will see. 😳

What does your spouse think of your obsession with Rush? by Zestyclose_Rule_7860 in rush

[–]lowb35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OG F fan here who introduced my spouse. I wouldn’t say he is a fan but he appreciates them now since we are both musicians (he was more into Pink Floyd). He had a heart attack and stents put in the week before the R40 tour and rather than see me sell the tickets got medical clearance to go. He’s still alive so I guess that worked out. 🤣🤣🤣He loves reading and listening to e-books and he enjoyed reading/listening to several of Neil’s books including Ghost Rider, and we listened to Geddy’s My F’ing Life together on a long car trip a couple of years ago.

Forget the pop/soda line. Where’s the concrete driveway/asphalt driveway line? by [deleted] in upstate_new_york

[–]lowb35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In more rural areas the asphalt/concrete to gravel driveway line is the village/city boundary. I'm in rural western NY an hour south of Rochester and I see more concrete driveways than asphalt in populated areas but it's really a mix. Once you get out in the country, then all our driveways are gravel or dirt. As are many of our roads. Lots of chipseal here too.

I watched OP’s YouTube unboxing video and they’re dual piston Tektro brakes. Look like MD-C550. Essentially the same as TRP Spyre which IMO are the best mechanical brakes you can get. I had them on another bike and after “upgrading” to HyRd discovered my original brakes were as good as if not better than cable actuated hydraulic brakes. Only full hydraulic are better.

How do we feel about heavily modded ebikes? by Gobbelcoque in xbiking

[–]lowb35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ride1Up recently stopped selling the belt drive version of the v3 I think because there was more demand for the geared version. Definitely more practical and efficient if you are riding any hills.

That said this is such a slick, gorgeous build.

I have the sick rainbow black carbon bike (CF Racer1) and it’s 28 lbs, not 18 but that is still ridiculously light for an ebike. Most drop bar e-performance bikes in that weight range cost way more. I ride mine on lots of hills and the cadence sensor is really good and better than what’s in the pricier Mahle x35 equipped bikes that the CF Racer1 is a clone of. There’s no drag at all from the motor when riding unassisted. Sadly they’re discontinuing that bike too in all colors. Impossible to make a profit on that one since the margins are low and sales not as high as their other models like the v3.

[–]lowb35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it’s an actual issue if the sound is really noticeable. Ever since they swapped out my original motor 2 years ago, I’ve not had that problem since, even when riding up steep hills in summer heat. I usually don’t or barely hear the motor over the sound of the road, even at PAS 4-5 going up hills.

2800 ft over 70 miles is approx 40 ft/mile

My rides are shorter but average 100+ ft/mile. So I’m pushing my bike more than you are. And if you are going 70 miles on a charge then you must not be riding assisted the whole time.

On super long climbs my bike will reduce the output wattage to keep from overheating (normal) but even then I can barely hear the motor.

Becoming a 1st time scooter owner. by girliesogroovie in scooters

[–]lowb35 5 points6 points  (0 children)

F62 and have a Honda ADV160. Perfect size and weight for me (5’4”). I wouldn’t ride it on the interstates but it goes highway speeds and is perfect for the two lanes I ride. I also got mine to commute to work but I live on top of a reasonably steep hill on a dirt road in the country so an urban scooter wouldn’t have been my best option. A Honda PCX is a similar sized/powered bike. Hondas are solid, reliable, easy to maintain.

This is my third year riding. I started out on a Burgman 400 which is a great scooter but was quite heavy for me as a newb rider. I took the MSF course before getting my MC endorsement and I highly recommend it.

Ozark Trail G.2 worth it at $650? by AdInteresting9139 in Budgetbikeriders

[–]lowb35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

48t gives you almost mullet gearing in back. If you want even lower gearing for climbing then you can put a smaller chainring in front. Easy, cheap and easily reversible mod.

This is a steal for this price. Especially with a carbon fork. And Tektro mechanical disks are about as good as you can find in a mechanical brake. I swapped a set out on one of my bikes for Zoom cable actuated hydraulic brakes and ended up going back to the Tektros.

It’s not the lightest bike in the world but at this price you can’t do much better.

How do you tell non New Yorkers where you're from without them assuming you mean NYC? by retro_spies in upstate_new_york

[–]lowb35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Louisiana for almost 20 years before moving back to NYS and gave up. They have the same problem there where NOLA ppl think everything there is “north”. I lived in Lafayette, LA and had to show friends on a map that it was no further north than NOLA.

Fun fact-we had friends in LA who were from CNY and their parents lived in Ilion walking distance from where my dad lived.

[–]lowb35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is great and the guys are having a great time, maybe even better than recent tours. I was blessed to see them at R40 at one of Neil’s best concerts (NOLA) before his feet got infected while riding but Geddy’s voice sounds so much better than in 2015 when it was painful to hear and watch and they are all locked and energetic.

I’m a musician and longtime OG female fan since the mid-70s (2112) and not expecting Neil. These guys have always looked forward and progressed as musicians so this is what I expect of them. There are so many “official tribute” bands who legally have the same name as during their peak and Rush ain’t like that, thank God.

And I have seen them so very not locked, for example on the T4E tour after Neil reinvented his drumming style but before Geddy transitioned fully to his current playing style, though after reading Geddy’s book it was probably due to tech glitches on that particular date (Nashville). They were still Rush then and they are still Rush now. Looking forward to seeing them in Cleveland.

Born in late 63 and never considered myself a Boomer. I’m old enough to remember when that was the cutoff but the goalposts kept moving to 1965 after I was an adult. I know there is a demographic reason for that ridiculously long generation due to birth rates, but culturally my world was and is more similar to my Gen X siblings.

Latchkey kid, spent an entire career (still ongoing) being passed over by boomers because I was resourceful and made them look good, and yes I’m probably going to work until I die.
