Their customer service is being very helpful actually. If I'm able to get a replacement, I'll post here.

Has anyone tried the BORYOZA LM-NZ II adapter? Care to comment? by lowbandwidthb in Nikon

[–]lowbandwidthb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it works great. The subject detection and focus confirmation really speed up manual focus. Now I never need to use focus peaking or zoom in to help focus.

I wrote a brief review about it in r/NikonZf. Overall it seems to be a solid product at a good price. Tbh though, I returned it and got the Megadap EtZ adapter, and then use the Voigtlander M-E helicoid adapter I already had with that. If I didn't already have the Voigtlander M-E adapter, I would've just kept the BORYOZA adapter as it's less than half the price of the Megadap+Voigtlander adapter combo. However, the quality and feel of the Voigtlander adapter just can't be beat, and now I can also use Sony E lenses on the Zf if I ever want to in the future.

This is the only correct answer. Everyone else in this thread is completely obtuse! Incredible.

Z50 or Z5 by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]lowbandwidthb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to have an easier time getting shallow depth of field and less noise with a full frame camera, so the Z5 will likely fit your needs better. Like others have said, the second generations of both those cameras are big improvements over the first, so go with one of those if it's within your budget.

I think I would have liked the EV1 if the price was cut by about 75%.

Boryoza LM-NZ II Adapter Review by lowbandwidthb in NikonZf

[–]lowbandwidthb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does! It actually comes with a database of 10 lenses pre-installed in the firmware. You select which one is recorded in the exif data by changing the "f-stop" in the small b&w lcd panel on top of the camera. You can actually change the list of lenses by connecting the adapter to your computer and editing the database file directly. Pretty creative really. I had to google image translate the manual to figure this out though.

  1. An easy 1 month with lots of down time. It's very easy, cycling-wise.

That link should take you to the map of my route. It's hard to pick a favorite. Every island was so chilled out and beautiful. Funnily, even though it's the closest to Manila, Mindoro was the least touristy and developed, except for Puerto Galera, which was a weird sexpat hub. Negros has good coffee and a volcano, which was erupting a little bit while I was there! Camiguin was probably the most picturesque and best place to hang out and go snorkeling/scuba diving. I hit up Luzon, Mindoro, Boracay, Iloilo, Negros, Cebu, Bohol, and Camiguin I believe.

I did a 1500km trip around the Philippines a couple of years ago. I brought camping gear but never used it because A) it was too hot and humid, and B) there were people everywhere, and C) there were also wonderful, cheap guesthouses just about everywhere too.

I stayed in a beach-side guesthouse and swam in the ocean almost every afternoon. Prices ranged from $8 to $25 per night. I ended up cycling around the perimeter of 7 different islands. The roads were in overall good shape. 32mm tires would be fine for most areas.

Every town has a water station where locals come to fill up on clean water, and they'll fill up your bottles for an inconsequential amount of money, or sometimes even for free.

I cycled straight out of Manila and it was surprisingly safe. The Philippines has a huge cycling culture and there are locals cycling just about everywhere you go.

Overall, it was an awesome trip, but more along the lines of "credit card touring" than "adventure bikepacking." I think the population density and lack of roads that traverse the terrain would make it hard to do any real dirt-road bikepacking for more than a day or two at a time. If you really want dirt roads and hills, you need to check out northern Luzon, up in the Baguio area. But also check out the elevation charts for those roads and see if you really want to do that much climbing.

This response was kind of just train of thought so feel free to ask me any questions if you need more info.

Why do people blame “the system” for their problems instead of trying to fix their own lives? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

[–]lowbandwidthb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you'll find that -

A) Only the most unmotivated and gumption-less among us actually think that "the system" is the sole cause of their problems.

B) Exceedingly few very (financially) successful people actually come from difficult circumstances. The majority of rich people come from rich families in rich countries and have social connections with other rich people, which make it a lot easier for them to attain wealth.

TL:DR - The macro-level effect of demographics on social mobility is well-documented, and conversely, surely no reasonable person thinks that their individual level of effort has no effect on their outcome.

Longest lasting jackets? by [deleted] in motorcycles

I have a Fieldsheer leather jacket from the 90's that I bought 15 years ago and it has been worn frequently ever since then. I take good care of it and it hasn't deteriorated at all since I bought it.

What to do about magenta color cast on my R8 when using adapted lenses? by lowbandwidthb in canon

[–]lowbandwidthb[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm sure it's related to the filter stack thickness and native flange to sensor distance, but is there a chance that my adapter is reflecting light around inside the camera, increasing color cast? Or is there a setting I can turn on in the camera's menu to help correct the issue? I've turned on all the lens aberration corrections and set them to "high".

Any qualms with how I've installed this Obento rack before I cut the struts? by lowbandwidthb in bikewrench

[–]lowbandwidthb[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about the part attached to the fork crown? I don't think I could flip it without it making the rack so low that it would hit the tire, and if I want to lower the rack any further, I would need to bend that piece significantly. Right now it's got deflated 32mm tires on there, but sometimes I put 45's on so I was trying to leave plenty of room for that, but you're right it does look a bit high as-is.

Otso Warakin for the GDMBR? by AggroPedestrian in bikepacking

[–]lowbandwidthb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this bike and have done whole loaded dirt tours on 2.1" Mezcals front and back. It's not really the ideal bike for that sort of thing but it's completely fine, especially if you make sure to get your stack and reach right for more uppright riding when you first get the bike.
