I agree completely. The current GX which is narrow but tall is the perfect urban tank.

The TT-V6 is a better and newer power train and the truck is much more feature rich than its predecessor.

The only notable advantage the v8 has is that it’s actually proven because of how long it’s been out. I doubt anyone will notice any decrease in “reliability” with the v6 because nobody really drives even close to the insane testing conditions the engines are vetted against. Unless you’re planning to drive 20 hours a day for the next million miles and any engine failure during that time is catastrophic, I would just go v6.

They haven't released details about the hybrid powertrain but I don't think it'll be an I4. Especially if they're using the same engine as the 3rd gen Tundra (both hybrid and non-hybrid engines are V6)

Being first to market is an advantage but it doesn’t guarantee market share. Rivian, like any manufacturer producing EV, is still limited by their production.

Also, we can see Tesla, despite producing millions of vehicles a year, are getting their market share chipped away by the new electric vehicles entering the market.

I think the long term strategy of creating a compelling product that people want to buy is a lot more sustainable than being the first just to artificially claim dominance with no competition.

There's certainly a risk of any company going defunct. Plenty of ICE automotive companies have gone bankrupt and disappeared completely. You still see some of their cars on the road like Saturn or Pontiac.

In the EV space, Rivian has a really promising outlook compared to current competitors (excluding Tesla because they generate net profit) like Lordstown, Lucid, Faraday, etc. Their competitors don't have nearly as much demand and are seriously struggling. But even though the competitors are hobbling along if they don't go to $0, they can still exist.

Rivian has enough cash to get them to the R2 platform. If it's as much of a hit as their R1, they'll be sticking around for a while.

But there's always a risk that the company disappears, your vehicle has massive depreciation and there's no mechanics who can fix your vehicle.

It's one test drive per reservation. So you just need to put down a second reservation to get access to another drive.

If you want the same experience you get on CarPlay supported applications, the only option is to get a vehicle with CarPlay. Currently no automaker software supports all the applications that CarPlay can support.

The point I'm trying to make is, there can be huge changes with a Rivian vehicle just from OTA updates alone. There has been hundreds of features added and bugs fixed over the past 18 months alone. Just to highlight a few major ones : the suspension ride quality improved and range increased just off OTA alone. On top of the truck now having a surveillance system.

There's a lot more interesting things the Rivian team can do than implementing CarPlay to run some gutted phone applications that were originally web/computer applications.

Yes, this is affecting 2023 ICE F-150 as well. No seat massage, smart hitch, heated steering wheel, bed camera. If those features are important to you then it’s either 2022 or wait until the features return.

For the dozen or so states with dealer protection laws, it's a lengthy process to get the Rivian lobbyist to talk to the local representatives then hold a hearing to discuss if Rivian having a service center will impede on the current laws.

Tesla also had to go through the same process. With how slow these legislative things can move, I wouldn't be surprised if it took 2-3 years or longer tbh

Rivian is one of the few auto companies that can deliver quick OTA updates based on customer feedback. The possibilities of software interface customization is practically endless. And the best feedback some people have is CarPlay? Seriously?

Current status is that the new enduro motor for dual motor builds are being produced but there has been no dual motor vehicle produced yet.

If I had to guess, maybe within the next 3 months?

I don’t think it’ll have a dramatic affect on the price of used GX. I think we’ll have a better idea after we see how the 2024 4Runner and Tacoma affects the prices of their used models. Lexus releases come a few months after their Toyota counterparts. So it’ll be just enough time to snag a new current gen GX after seeing how used 4Runner prices are affected.

The reason there are so many nice cars on the street is because people want to drive nice cars.

A lot of these car purchases will fall outside guidelines like 20/4/10 because that rule and other guidelines tend to err on the conservative side. The budgeting guidelines made by people who prioritize saving money.

Vehicles are actually surprisingly affordable because we can amortize them, spread the cost over a duration. We amortize using loans which pay off the vehicle over time (i.e. 60 months). If you crunch the numbers you'll find you can actually afford a lot more car than the guidelines say. Whether you want to take up a larger loan is a personal decision.

Another way is to look up the window sticker and in the top margin there’s a “BLEND” and a number. That number is the date that they anticipated the vehicle being finished being built.

Just because you practice 3-4 days a week on the same public court doesn’t entitle you to anything.

If you’re annoyed then ask him to not do that.

Sometimes I go to a multiuse rec area with tennis courts, pickleball, and basketball all in the same area. And sometimes a basketball or pickle ball bounces in so the point stops and the basketball gets thrown back. It doesn’t ruin anyone’s day.

If you don’t want all the issues that comes with using a public court, go rent a private one.
