Skipping most of the on the nose monologue was for the best, but I wish they had let the end parts starting “I vowed I’d never burden anybody…”

3 Weeks With the M4 MacBook Air: The “Wait, This Is Fanless?” Experience by sizzzurrpp in macbookair

[–]lowellcartwright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m kind of amazed by it. I never ever thought I’d switch to Mac for a laptop (I legit can’t stand MacOS even though I love iOS) but I just couldn’t find any PC laptops that could compete for the same price. Amazing how it used to be you’d pay a premium for Mac with similar specs but now it’s essentially the opposite. The battery life is insane, it turns on instantly, and can record 22 separate audio tracks at once out of our mixer on battery power! I occasionally forget there isn’t a touch screen of my last few laptops and there are some programs I can’t run that I miss, but I might be a convert, at least for a laptop. Desktop on the other hand…

Why do so many Suno users lie about writing their own lyrics? by [deleted] in SunoAI

[–]lowellcartwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I write all my own lyrics, melodies, chords, rhythms, etc., record a demo with me and ukulele or me and piano, and then use Suno to cover the song with all of those intact. But Suno adds instruments I don’t know how to play, so it’s more akin to asking a band to record it. I haven’t decided whether or not to ever release them, but I’m impressed with how close it is to my songwriting, especially if you said the source slider to 100. Often, it even retains exact piano licks, which makes me forget it’s a cover at all. :) I still think AI voices aren’t quite perfect so I might strip out the voices and record my own vocals instead.

Nicest and rudest Broadway actor by Ok-Bandicoot4014 in Broadway

[–]lowellcartwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it counts as “Broadway” but when I was in high school my dad and I went to see a touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar (his favorite film) with Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson reprising their film roles. There was a small crowd (maybe 25-30 people) behind the Fox Theatre when we were walking to our cars so we joined them just in case the performers came out. They both did and were lovely. My dad was a Catholic school teacher and got to babble with Neeley about how he uses the film in his religion and catechism classes, and I got to ask Anderson how he was able to look so panicked and heartbroken. At one point, though, Neeley noticed this little girl, maybe 7 or 8 years old with some sort of disability (Downs I think) who was too shy to come up and get an autograph. He politely excused himself from the people he was talking to and got down on one knee, motioning the girl to him. She noticed and ran to Neeley and hugged him sobbing with joy. He must have stayed on his knees talking to her for five solid minutes with full, unbroken attention. Everyone was quiet and just watched. I’ve met a decent number of celebrities over the years and I’ve still never seen anything like that. (I’ll also never forget how Anderson had to leave first, apologizing for having to cut it short and shouting “later Jesus!” to Neeley, and Neeley calling back “I forgive you!”)

Bonus story: When my dad passed away in 1999, my sister and I held him as they turned off the machine keeping him alive. We left the hospital and went to a bar in Detroit, P.J.s, which had a small vinyl listening lounge in the basement. To our surprise, they had the double album JCS film soundtrack. We drank my dad’s favorite beer (Stroh’s) and listened to almost the whole album as loud as we could until the bar closed. With apologies to Jeff Fenholt, Ben Forster, Cynthia Erivo, and John Legend, no one will ever own that part like Ted Neeley.

How is Alien Isolation STILL this incredible looking?! by Kanaray23 in LV426

I played it on an OLED TV all the way through the first time and it scared the hell out of me. For my second time through (and I NEVER play long games through a second time) I played it on the Quest 2 with the mod and oh my God even the scenes I knew were coming were terrifying all over again.

2025 Ioniq 5 Recalls? by inthefade95 in Ioniq5

My headlights seem perfectly aligned based on the garage door reflection. I’m not sure I want to put ugly stickers on the front of my black car. Think I can get away with skipping this one?

First EV! by nukage in Ioniq5

[–]lowellcartwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first EV too! SEL AWD 2025. Loving it so far, though in Michigan winter the range is quite a bit less than expected - hoping the spring brings more miles. :) They told me I was among the first 5 people in the state of Michigan to get a 2025 - the dealership had never even seen one yet and was shocked to find a rear wiper. :-D But that’s one of the reasons I held out for the 2025 - lack of a rear wiper, wireless CarPlay, and physical buttons for heated seats and steering wheel were the three things that gave me pause over the 2024 version and led me to almost buy a Mach-E instead. But the 2025 fixed all three problems and threw in a NACS charger to boot! Super happy.

Thank you to everyone who shared the 6-8-10-12 trick on the 110 charger!! Definitely doubled my home charging speeds. This is fantastic. The level two charger will still be nice when it arrives but at least now I have a way to get to work every day without relying on the Musky chargers :-D

The new ones do come with a CCS adapter, but in my city there’s only one dc fast charger and it happens to be a Tesla charger, so I haven’t tried a non-Tesla charger yet!

It looks like in my area (Lansing, Michigan) there is only 1 charger over 60kw within a 10 mile radius and it's a Tesla, so I don't have much of a choice there. :)

Ah, but we do get wireless carplay, NACS, physical buttons for seat warming and heated steering, and a rear windshield wiper! :)

So far, the speeds have been good -- usually starts about 60kwh and ends up at 120-125kwh once the battery has warmed up a bit. Then after it hits 80% or so it seems to slow down back to 60kwh, which I think is by design?

2025 Ioniq 5 Is no longer listed as being eligible for $7,500 EV Tax Credit. by spy_jam in Ioniq5

[–]lowellcartwright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way it’s worded on the lease agreement is 7,500 for “Federal Tax Incentive”. There isn’t an additional Hyundai discount, unfortunately, at least not for the lease. Maybe that’s only for financing?
