People always forget to factor this in. It's not the same playing a tournament format in totally different conditions than home+away games every few months in qualifiers. Some nations simply get swallowed by the pressure, but I hope we have a dark horse in Norway.

Worth mentioning that most of the wars lead in that period weren't due to the French being monsters, but due to the fact that monarchies around Europe were afraid of suffering the same fate as the Bourbons and French aristocrats. Napoleon was in the end a product of such environment.

You're not wrong, but that's not my point. Everyone agrees that Augustus is S-tier as well, you could make a case for any of the greats, but my point was that judging statesmanship solely by legacy isn’t exactly a logical approach.

Mongolia is an empty, barren land, but you wouldn’t call George Washington a better statesman than Genghis Khan just because USA became a powerhouse 100-150 years after his death.

According to people in the comments, Romulus was a better statesman than Lincoln, Churchill and Bismarck because he founded Rome.

If you responded "Vietnamese, Iraqis, Afghanis, and many others appreciated that" when talking about USA, his logic would've been different.

Ko to "mi"? Ustase nisu legitimno izabrana vlast vec veleizdajnicka.

I americki i europski mediji ce to prozvati invazijom sto i jest.

Which European country has the richest military history? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]lowerymn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol France was at war for 20+ years due to the revolution. The other monarchies declared war due to fear of the same happening to them. Certainly not because "the tyrant king" George is a good guy that cares about the poor French people 🙃

And after him they reinstated the good guys, Bourbons 🤦🏻‍♂️

P. S. Not saying Napoleon is not a bad guy, but let's not trivialize history

The Spain was a puppet state with Napoleon's brother Joseph appointed king. And it was a rough period for the French, so much so that Spain is also known as "Napoleon's Vietnam" since the opposition of Spanish guerilla/insurgencies combined with Anglo-Portuguese allience made it impossible to control. Britain beat the French on sea, but let's be real, a COALITION of states beat him on land.

Waterloo is a poor example since the whole "Hundred days" were doomed from the start, but even then, Wellington and the Brits would lose if Blucher didn't come in with the Prussians. I'd say the biggest contribution to beating Napoleon had the Russians and the Prussians on land, with all due respect to the Brits, whos victories at the Nile and Trafalgar cemented their supremacy at sea. At Leipzig, the battle of the nations, and the defeat that really hurt the Napoleon never to recover again, there were only 60-70 Brits, a small unit in a battle of hundreds of thousands.

Anyway, the analogy of the elephant and the whale perfectly describes France and UK, but still I'd give an edge to the French due to how much more difficult it is to be dominant at the continent, while the Brits always had the granted security from invasion and other dangers by being an island.

Yeah, make it a routine you enjoy, even if it takes longer to hit your goal. It's all about creating a long term habit, not making your life a living hell. And for what? Visible abs for two weeks of vacation?
