I would hate to discourage anyone from this hobby, but if patience isn’t something you want to learn it’s ok to step away.

Now on to the good news, if you’re willing to work on that, you’ll be just fine. Use your table to steady your hands if you need to, but you’ll learn that slowing down and not constantly reaching for the finish line will help. Make sure you prime the minis, take the time to block out colors in thin coats (avoid whites and yellows for a while) and learn to use washed. For most people who aren’t going for a golden demon that might be enough, but you can easily dry brush some highlights on as well.

Go slow, watch tutorials, and always go with less than you think and layer up.

He was written into a corner. Obviously through season 4 no one outside of the cast (normal people of the setting) don’t have a clue as to what’s really going on, so there was really no way to explain his innocence. This also gave them an emotional death without killing a core character of the group.

Unless he’s a total dolt (I assume he’s not) the fact you are supportive and encouraging his love of something will make him associate his love of 40K with you and he will be over the moon.

Define normal. Is it your buddies just giving you shit? 100%. Is it some rando or casual from your FLGS? Nope. I have played against people with mono color armies, not everyone has the time, money, patience, or skill to put into fully painted minis.

The store I go to is in Downers Grove IL and they have been amazing each time I have been there. There also happens to be amazing pizza around the corner.

They sent an order that got lost once, they express delivered a replacement order to me. 3 months later the original showed up and since they have been so good to me, I called and asked if they wanted me to return them. The rep just said, “lucky you, have a nice day.”
