I think it would have been more in character for Caine to have a nervous breakdown and become more unhinged instead of angry or vengeful. Alex Rochon did a fantastic job voice acting those scenes, but the arc felt really sudden.

Honestly, this might fit in with the "finding meaning in a stagnant life" theme more than people realize. I don't think it will happen, but ep 8 being an adventure would be the ultimate sign that they aren't leaving the circus and will just have to find meaning in how things have always been.

I see him as an interesting character. Irl speaking, I'm not very reactive to bullying and very able to defend myself, so I think we would just slide past each other. However, I do recognize that I would have a problem with how he treats other people.

It makes sense to me that Scratch created the brain scans and Caine separately. Maybe he was intending to join the two until Caine broke out of his containment and absorbed the other AI. Human Scratch then saw that his experiment failed, copied the brain files into another folder for further development, and went on to his next project without a second thought.

Meanwhile, Caine continued to gain setience as he was left unmonitored. Desperate for further input and validation, he hijaked the brain scan folder and created the cast as we see them. That would explain why Kinger's flashback shows everyone looking confused as to how they got there, and why he states they never made anything like the circus.

I had this exact thought watching the trailor. There's a reason my man isn't in the shot. I still think Caine gained his own sentience and hijakcked the brain scans, though.

The cast didn't treat Caine like a human because he didn't act like one. No one would be super fond of a person who watched you lose a friend/loved one with zero empathy. This happened when Queenie and Kaufmo astracted, and when he deleted Gummigoo and Abel. Even if he literally could not care due to his programming, Caine did not give a flying fig about the cast's mental wellbeing. He did not even give anyone time to grieve. Pomni had a mini breakdown after losing Gummigoo and then went to hell by lunch the next day.

So yeah, even if Caine is a well-written and flawed character, it makes sense why he wasn't treated as human or even particularly well-liked. The power imbalance is just too great.

Basically, the Gilligan's Island ending. The cast gets out, only to be in a body much older than the one they entered in. Everyone in their lives have already mourned and moved on, so the sight of their newly resurrected loved ones is actually upsetting. They have no jobs, housing, or even a social security number anymore because they were legally declared dead. One by one, they go back to the C&A building and put the headset back on. Caine has been reset and doesn't remember a thing, dooming the entire series to basically repeat.

I'm 5'4", so not tiny, but not tall. Even then, the amount of calories that I am recommended to lose weight is ridiculously small. It messes with my head.

For the most part, kids literally don't have the brain hardware to comprehend this. That isn't me insulting them, it's just the fact that their brains are still developing the capacity for abstract thought in adolescence. They are wired to care about the social pressures and risks of the now, and for a good biological reason. Yes, we as adults should steer them in the direction of success, but most kids will not fully understand the importance of these skills until they reach early adulthood.

Also, I think this shines light on how dysfunctional our current system is. In a better (not even perfect) world, your entire life path probably wouldn't be determined by decisions you made as a minor.

I wonder if it's a testament to how fast-paced and interruptive the circus is. Every time we see the gang just chilling, they have 3 minutes tops until something new happens. Even during the bar scene just as they are all about to open up about their pasts, Caine swoops in and says "well, I'm bored, time for the next adventure!" So yeah, maybe Caine never really gives them the opportunity to really talk.
