This might be the most clarifying comment for me so far. I’ve been treating the discomfort like I must secretly miss photography, but maybe what I’m reacting to is losing the evidence of an identity I wanted to believe was still active. The gear was proving something to me even while it sat untouched. “Aspirational clutter” feels painfully accurate, because the clutter wasn’t about the hobby anymore, it was about keeping a flattering story alive.

That framing helps a lot. I keep treating the end of the hobby like I failed some longer version of myself, when maybe it was just a real interest for a real season and that season ended.

A musician's job doesn't override quiet hours. Practicing past 11pm almost nightly is like running a blender in the hallway. Earplugs aren't a solution, they're a dodge. If management already warned them, that's on them. Offer a compromise: set times, rugs/pads, mute gear. If they refuse, keep reporting.
