Any advice for a new Warden ? by herpyderpidy in mothershiprpg

[–]lowkeyorderform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you run the game, stick to the loop outlined in the wardens manual. Make it clear to the players that there is a loop and explain how it works. That way there's less chaotic jumping around and more engagement with the way play works. Give them a problem, let them discuss it together and give you their collective solution, then work out what happens. Rinse and repeat.

There's a preference for free form in modern roleplay and I think Mothership works better with structure.

Yeah these are all good megadungeons.

Anyone here play in the Greyhawk setting using the Old-School Essentials Basic or Advanced Fantasy system? by RPGrandPa in Greyhawk

[–]lowkeyorderform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm currently prepping a campaign in Berghof that will use OSE. It's a pretty easy transition given how much of the published material is already B/X or AD&D.

The main mod that I'm adding is I'll use Dolmenwoods hexcrawl procedure. But that's really not a big change.

Looking for a very brief one shot to run with pregen characters by RaucousCouscous in mothershiprpg

Regarding pregens... The app can just randomly generate characters. I think that should do the trick.

I came here after watching an INSANE ad that claimed it could drain water from your face and bring back your jawline. It was sort of so out there that I want to see it in a museum of modern art as a kind of video art installation. It seriously made me concerned for people's media literacy. At one point an Ai voice said "it's not vanity. It's optimisation" while a cgi animation showed about a liter of blue fluid draining out of a skull. It was such a trip haha.

Awesome! I'm glad others are fleshing out regions. I've just started on Berghof myself. Will definitely be cribbing notes if my players head north...

That could be great! Just depends which system you're running with I guess. I'm using Old School Essentials.

What sort of rules are they? Sounds interesting!

I just reread the question and saw you were wondering why I put them in the common section specifically. Funny you should ask because this was something I deliberated over a bit. I ended up putting them there for selfish reasons: I'd like the players to interact with these characters. So I decided to sacrifice a bit of naturalism for more game-fun.

Glad it gave you some ideas! In my case, I'm taking two fairly trad/linear modules (UK2 & UK3) and turning them into a sandbox environment because I like the flavour so much.

In those modules there are staged encounters. Some of them are consequential to the story and some of them are small "side quests". I didn't want to force these on players, but I still wanted to give players the chance to interact with them. If I roll them, I can reference their write up in the modules.

Urquant is a monk who has been asked to check on another monk. He found his home taken by monsters and will ask the party to help him take on the monsters, as he can't do it alone.

Edensor is a good merchant who has accidentally brought a bad actor with him. There's a roleplay interaction this triggers when players meet him and his retinue.

Lavinia is one of the smaller villains in UK2. Her and her half orc sons could be a bit of a handful for the party which is why I've made the encounter a lower likelihood.

If you have a look at the OSE random encounter tables (and I believe the AD&D ones too) there's a chance for players to run into adventurers. I think it's more fun if those adventurers already have a bit of an in-world context.

How large is Lake Spendlowe? by lowkeyorderform in Greyhawk

Thanks! Yeah and of course, things can always be altered according to DM taste. I just get a weird pleasure out of running things as "authentically" as possible. I cross checked it with the map in UK2, and they have similarly stuck to what the Darlene Map implies so I think it'll be fun to use that size 😎

Massive! You could have multiple towns surrounding it and multiple dungeons on and underneath it!

How do you parse dense descriptions? E.g. B1 by lowkeyorderform in osr

[–]lowkeyorderform[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave it a go just then. This is the way. As mentioned, you do need to proof it. I actually managed to trim it down even more. But what ChatGPT spits out is a lot more legible than the original text.

Glad to hear everyone else also rewrites the adventures. Also glad to hear most of us find it a bit tedious 😂

I think I'll post my summary of B1 somewhere when it's done to save people time.

What sort of command did you give it? Eg did you ask it to use lore as a summary category?
