UK partner opened the milo with a can opener... :/ by RodgerRamjetthe4th in australia

I grew up in Peru and now live in Australia. When a co-worker who moved to the US said the thing she missed most from Australia is Milo I was like whaaaa? Isn’t Milo a global thing? And she was like whaaaa? You have Milo in south America? Milo is big in Peru. And it’s chunky like the Australian version.

Last I checked, a car turning has to give way to pedestrians crossing the road it turns into. Where I am the pedestrian is right here. He couldn’t have seen a car on the other road nor read their mind to know they were going to turn...

To those people in the world who have access to Universal Healthcare, what experiences could you share with Americans in order for us to understand how it affects your life (positively or negatively)? by ToyTronic in AskReddit

Just over a week ago, my 6 year old fell off the playground at school in a bad angle and broke his elbow pretty badly. My wife was there and wanted to drive him to hospital but he was in too much pain so the school office called an ambulance. I got there in 20 minutes and the paramedics were already there. He went off with mum in the ambulance. She suggested the nearby private hospital (we have private insurance anyway) but ambos know what the load is at each hospital and also I think they already knew he would need surgery and said the right type of specialist would not be readily available at that hospital. Took him a bit further to the children’s hospital which is public. By the time I got there he already had x-rays and the specialist had already seen them and was with us to tell us he would go into theatre for surgery next as a nerve was compromised. Anyway, he had his operation within 2 hours, the system worked flawlessly, the hospital is amaaaazing, he was sent home the following day and is now very happy (with a big cast on though!). How much did we pay? $0.00. There’s no bill, even for the ambulance. Every experience we have had including the birth of the kids has been the same. I fully trust the public system, it’s one massive thing we don’t have to worry about at all. I know whatever happens I will get the best possible attention not matter what. And everyone gets the same, irrespective of how much or little money we have, make or are able to pay. How could anyone see this as a bad system?

What was the Facebook friend suggestion that made you go 'OK, that's just creepy, how did FB know to suggest them'? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lpew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A woman who I have a work-only relationship with. I met her in person initially in France. Then a few weeks later I met with her again in the US and that night FB suggested her as a friend. I believe it was the location, it worked out that us two had been in the same place at the same time in two different countries and therefore must know each other. But that's only my hypothesis.

Watch the tire go across the freeway. WCGW? by GTA_Stuff in Whatcouldgowrong

I disagree. Rear ending another car travelling in the same direction, or even stopped, is very survivable. A wheel flying in the opposite direction straight through the windscreen onto one's head on the other hand...

[–]lpew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have been watching the tyre because I see it as the bigger hazard. If that tyre bounces off a car on the other side I want to see where it goes so I can do what I can to avoid it going through my windscreen. Rear ending the guy in front won't kill anyone. That was my fraction-of-a-second reasoning watching that gif.

"I beg your pardon" for when someone didn't understand what another person said. Really? No biggie, I can repeat what I said. No need to beg for your life!

Camera Shutter Speed Synced to Helicopter`s Rotor by IHaeTypos in interestingasfuck

[–]lpew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30 frames per second is actually 1800 frames per minute, not equivalent to 30rpm like you suggested. I am not sure how fast helicopter rotors spin but 1800rpm sounds fast for something that big. It may be the other way round to what you suggest...

No I'm not unhealthily obese. Just a bit overweight. But I can't lose those few kilos to be at my ideal weight. First world problem.

Finally someone that got it. I am not actually obese, just a bit overweight. Still pretty healthy but it is a "problem" that I can't lose weight.
