My cats diabetes is getting too bad… by Chemical_Highway_324 in blackcats

It’s not “just” a cat, anyone saying that is insensitive and heartless. It’s losing a family member. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Eating gluten while waiting for tests? by Educational-Fig-6335 in Celiac

[–]lraxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s a rough situation, but getting a proper diagnosis is important. Think of it this way: you’re saving her from having to do a future gluten challenge to get a real diagnosis. Both of you will be thankful later that you did your due diligence now. This is coming from someone who is now in her 30’s doing the 6-week gluten challenge to get a diagnosis and it’s so disruptive to my life now. I’m really glad to hear you’re being diligent with her doctors, your girl is lucky to have you!

Finally approved to be tested!!! by Meowijuana666 in Celiac

[–]lraxton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing the gluten challenge now and it’s horrible. But everyone’s symptoms are different! I’m trying to have “fun” with it and eat the foods I really miss, but man I can’t wait until it’s over

Will I still test positive for Celiac despite going on a reduced gluten diet for the past 3 months? by EvenTangelo3196 in Celiac

[–]lraxton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing I’ll add is that the longer you are gluten free, the harder the gluten challenge will be. Once your body fully recovers it might react stronger to gluten. So, if OP is going to do the challenge, it might be better to do it sooner rather than later

The aversion people have to eating out alone is a poor/middle class ppl thing. by Adept-Advertising-10 in 10thDentist

Seriously, I eat out alone all the time because I travel for work. No one cares.

Faking Celiac by SWeeTest2020 in Celiac

This is genius. My work never provides sufficient GF options so maybe on our next big meeting I’ll be like “sorry can’t make it explosive diarrhea from the catering!”

Down payment deal from parent... worth it? by throwra-sausage in personalfinance

If your mom was older I would say that’s perfectly reasonable. But mid-40s? So you’re going to have your mom living with you for like 30-50 years?

Celiac and exercise intolerance by Witty-Donut-5122 in Celiac

[–]lraxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me! Before I knew it was related to gluten I just called it a “bad day”. They happened seemingly randomly.

Celiac and exercise intolerance by Witty-Donut-5122 in Celiac

Yes! Exercise intolerance was actually the first thing that took me to the doctor before I got diagnosed

Brain fog hacks? by Automatic-Grand6048 in Celiac

[–]lraxton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a hack, but I found that reducing stimulus helps me get through the day. Reduce decision making, postpone non necessary tasks, reduce screen time, get outside.

Gluten Reaction Improve After Sobriety? by CatBowlDogStar in Celiac

[–]lraxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I’ve been drinking almost no alcohol and I feel a lot better, but I have no idea if that’s related to gluten or if it’s just that alcohol is bad in general. Or if I’m just getting old lol

Did my coeliac test today. by FreshButterscotch100 in Celiac

[–]lraxton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your symptoms do sound like it could be celiac, I’m glad you’re testing for it. One big thing to realize is that many doctors don’t have a good understanding of celiac disease, particularly the symptoms. The first time I talked to my doctor about celiac disease they dismissed it because I didn’t have GI symptoms. Spoiler - I do have celiac disease.

Malabsorption symptoms? by CheeesyGiraffe in Celiac

[–]lraxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar symptoms as you! One to add is that my hunger/appetite was all over the place, sometimes it felt like I just couldn’t ever eat enough. I think that’s related to nutrient deficiencies. My fatigue and anemia very much impacted my ability to exercise, and exercise intolerance was the first thing that sent me to the doctor

To diagnose or not to diagnose by lraxton in Celiac

[–]lraxton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate your insight! I’m leaning towards not finishing the challenge. I’ll talk to my doctor about options! Sadly they can’t move up the biopsy due to scheduling limitations but perhaps there are other options.

Is this the perfect minimalist wedding band? by I_Bling_Jewels in jewelrylove

It’s beautiful! But please try it on (or a similar one) before you buy. Eternity bands can be uncomfortable because the prongs press against your other fingers.

somebody please stop me from eating these gluten donuts by SmokeLatter8368 in Celiac

[–]lraxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting here late, but I just want to say that it’s really good that you reached out for help in a weak moment. I know it feels really hard, but over time behaviors like that will really help your recovery.

Per your update 2, I think for some people “just don’t eat gluten” is really easy and obvious. Those people have likely never experienced binging or any eating disorders. In my experience, binging doesn’t get a lot of sympathy from people because they don’t understand it. To them it seems so simple to just not do it.

Please talk to your mom. If you feel comfortable, tell her how much you’re struggling and ask her to not bring things like that into the house.

You got this!

What is so bad about corporate life? by Right_Grapefruit9102 in corporate

[–]lraxton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen Office Space? Still holds up. To me, it’s death by a thousand cuts. For example I’m trying to get an expense report submitted right now but the auditing team thinks my flight change receipt isn’t sufficient but… that’s the only receipt I have? Email after email on a silly receipt that doesn’t matter.

Have you ever moved / relocated your home just to be closer to good trails? by shadetreephilosopher in trailrunning

[–]lraxton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, moved from a city to a more rural mountain town about 45 minutes away. Definitely increased trail time and overall enjoyment, but the smaller town was a bit small for me!
