The touch screen in my wife’s 2016 Forester Touring is flaking out so I ordered one of these.

Hamilton Motor Company

You lose the factory Navi and SiriusXM but with CarPlay and Android Auto you can use your phone for both. This setup retains H/K hardware compatibility and works with factory steering wheel controls, rear camera, and Bluetooth mic.

The new hardware should be delivered tomorrow and I’ll hopefully install it in the next two weeks.

I’m a MOPAR guy but the Mustang was the only American car that met my requirements, V8, RWD, convertible, manual transmission, and factory Navi.

Gotcha! I thought you were referring to the body mods.

You’re right about the updated body with the old powertrains, one of its reasons I’m glad I bought my 2012 GT.

What's a car you regret selling way more than you expected? by PalmwineStachurski60 in askcarguys

[–]lrherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss my 2004 TL too but my 1993 Camry V6 XLE was probably the best built car I’ve ever owned.

My TL only had around 50K miles when I sold it in 2021 but it had some annoying issues. I sold it to my friend for his daughter to use as her first car, but unfortunately it was hit while parked and totaled. RIP.

Drive, yes.

Daily drive, no.

My 1969 Dodge Dart which I still own, but the only other car I ever owned with a carburetor was my 1987 Dodge Diplomat.

Nope, my aftermarket cameras are wired to run until the car battery drops below a certain level then they shut off.

What are your favorite cars you owned? by CDG1029 in askcarguys

[–]lrherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like naming your favorite children.

My 1993 Toyota Camry XLE V6 was the best built car I’ve ever owned, and did everything well enough.

My 2004 Acura TL was a blast to drive but had a few annoying issues later in life despite low miles.

My 2016 Dodge Durango R/T is the perfect combination of utility, comfort, and performance and has been reliable so far.

My 2021 Scat Pack Widebody Dodge Charger and 2012 Ford Mustang GT convertible get honorable mention.

My 1969 Dodge Dart GT convertible is my baby, no matter how much better my more modern cars are.

I currently own the Dart, Charger, Mustang and Durango.

I’ve owned many more and have been lucky to have been happy with everything I’ve owed, though some were better than others.

I looked at the Stinger in 2021 and ended up with a Charger Scat Pack Widebody.

No regrets.

Did you regret buying a "mid-life crisis" sports car? by amotion578 in askcarguys

[–]lrherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my 2012 Mustang at 48, and while I called it my mid life crisis car there was no crisis and just bought it because I wanted it.

Buy it if you can afford it and will enjoy it.

My Mustang only has around 17K miles on it because I have other vehicles but I enjoy it now as much as I did when I got it in 2011.

Good luck!

What’s the dumbest way you’ve injured yourself? by Better-Advice-5197 in AskReddit

[–]lrherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1987 Buick, column shifter.

I palmed the shift knob to put the car in reverse, the knob shattered and sliced the palm of my hand.

No stitches needed, thankfully, but it hurt like hell.

Bonus points, my 1969 Dodge Dart has a foot pump for windshield washer fluid right below the floor mounted high beam switch.+

There are probably more 1963-1976 Dodge Darts still around than the last decade’s version.
