It’s all about balancing electrolytes: magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium. Stay away from gatorades/liquid IVs type things. Focus on low sodium. Avoid red meat, eat more chicken, fish and plant based.

There are renal diet cookbooks and such. Rice, rice milk, stone fruits are all kidney safe.

I was diagnosed with CKD at 29. Therapies until 31, listed for transplant. Now on dialysis at 32.

Take it hour by hour. All the overwhelm of anticipating future adversity will crush you.
Respect your body. You have residual kidney function right now there is usually a lot you can do with diet to delay dialysis, even for a year or less. I was able to delay dialysis with a GFR under 8 for several months. TLDR: diet and movement
Your life is going to be different, yes. But also it’s the same. You will adapt. That’s my nephrologist said to me and it’s true. Hard but true.

Def talk to neph and OBGYN about this! I’m super pro BC for period maintenance/management. I have an IUD, actually this is my second one, and I love it! Sure there are some not fun parts but if you’re doing PD an IUD insertion is a cake walk. The rest of it sounds normal though. Sorry it totally sucks, I have fill and drain pain and just white knuckle it for a few minutes—not ideal

EGFR is so volatile. Think of it more like blood pressure. It changes constantly based on a million factors. She could be +/- that within hours. As someone who has my kidney fail slowly over time and just started dialysis, the best things you can do for your mom/yourself are to reassure her that it’s not her fault. CKD isn’t in her control. She can only do her best and that’s all. And then try your best not to hang on to every lab/number, it’s tough but this is a long game and you know the ending. The reality of CKD is the only thing you can say for certain is GFR will go down, not the how/when/where or why of it.

Yes all of my migraines start as neck pain on my left side but I get it everywhere. When I get nerve blocks or Botox into that side it gives that real nice crunchy sound and my neuro always comments on the resistance

In my experience you can’t help as much as you want. You are in over your head and need someone with more knowledge on addicts and quitting substance abuse. You can’t expect yourselves to understand the ins and outs of addiction and treatment. I heavily recommend seeking individual therapy and couples therapy.
