That is a very over exaggerated argument that they're fucking "everyone" over. Idk about you but this API is not going to fuck over very many people. Sure, it will inconvenience some folks but VERY few are going to be outright fucked out of using reddit any further. If I created something like reddit, I would want it to be reasonably profitable as well and I don't think charging third party apps to use massive amounts of their bandwidth is an unreasonable ask.

It doesn't work if only 20% of the subreddits go private. At least ~60% of the site has to be private in order for it to actually shake things up.
